Job Summary


Sports Nutrition Resident is for post-graduate training in a structured sports nutrition residency program under the supervision of a mentor and other sports dietitians and nutrition professionals.

Through the training program, the incumbent assesses clients, develops and initiates evidence based plans of action based on the results of the evaluation.

Provides direct patient care. Documents findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. Documents findings, progress and instruction to patients and caregivers. In addition to clinical practice, the resident will receive mentoring and didactic training over a 12 month period. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. Specific age groups that are served by this position are-Adolescent and Adult.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's or graduate degree in Food & Nutrition
or related area


Licenses/Certifications:

Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) within three (3) months of hire.


Experience / Knowledge / Skills:


  • The position requires occasional/frequent pushing and lifting pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting
  • Fine hand dexterity, eyehand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary.
  • The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position

Principal Accountabilities

  • Participates and completes in all aspects of Sports Nutrition Residency Program including reporting, mentoring sessions, clinical and didactic training, and other duties or requirements as assigned.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team. Establishes goals for nutrition care of patients, conducts assessments and develops individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status.
  • Provides sports nutrition recommendations to clients appropriate for their age, and modifies nutrition regimens according to food preferences, tolerances and cultural and religious preferences.
  • Communicates effectively with patients/caregivers and professional colleagues. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical record and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensures safe care of patients by adhering to policies, procedures and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, flexibility based on patient census and accuracy of practice. Provide treatment in all areas of the department, which may include inpatients, outpatients, weekends and holidays.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, and skills competency. Supports departmentbased goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff. Assists in clinic education efforts, whether to patients, staff, hospital, system or to the community.
