Duties

Investigates leading edge technology in computer systems.
Investigates computer science concepts applicable to the assigned project.
Documents the proposed algorithms to be investigated and represent research plan to the project leader.
Implements and evaluates the proposed algorithms for computer efficiency.

- Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- This position may be eligible for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).
  
  Qualifications
  
  This position will be filled under the Pathways Internship Program. This Program allows students to gain paid work experience while pursuing a degree, diploma or certificate at a qualifying institution. Under the Pathways Program, students who successfully complete all work, study, qualifications, and other eligibility requirements may be offered a permanent position work our agency upon graduation or completion of a qualifying certificate.
  
  At the Agency's discretion, students hired under the Pathways Program may be non-competitively converted to a term, career, or career-conditional appointment with a possible Full Performance Level (FPL) of GS-05, GS-07, GS-09, GS-11, GS-12, or GS-13 (FPL varies based on hiring department).
  
  You MUST be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate or professional school (go to to verify accreditation status). Individuals who are enrolled must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
  
  You MUST provide evidence of your current (spring semester or equivalent) enrollment, either on your transcript or by uploading a separate class schedule. If you are completing your current program this semester you must provide a letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment into another qualifying program to be rated eligible.
  
  AND
  
  Applicants must have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  
  MINIMUM GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS :
  
  GS-5: Applicants must meet the following requirements:
  
  Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
  
  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
  
  Education
  
  You MUST submit a copy of your transcript to determine eligibility under this hiring authority. Further, if you claim qualifications based on education and do not submit a supporting transcript, your education will not be used in making a qualification determination and you may be found not qualified. Unofficial copies are acceptable; however, if selected, official transcripts are required.
  
  You MUST submit your unofficial college transcripts with your application to include transfer courses, credit hours and grades to calculate GPA. Applicants who fail to provide transcripts will be marked as insufficient and will not receive consideration for this position. See: Transcripts and Licenses .
  
  Additional information
  
  If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once renovations are completed for your area, you will be notified when to return to the office. At that time, you will be expected to work from your duty station, and you may be eligible to telework, up to 8 days a pay period depending on your respective work schedule, with approval from your supervisor.
