The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Technical Writer-Junior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:


The Battlespace Division is a government organization comprised of four branches that are dedicated to providing and developing enterprise level modeling and simulation (M&S) tools in support of warfighter training; test and evaluation (T&E); data analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners.

The tools include the Next Generation Threat System (NGTS), the Global Reusable Interface Domain (GRID), the Weapons Server Common Environment (WSCE), the Simulation Control Executive (SCE), the Simulation Debrief Tool (SDT), and the Analysis and Reporting Tool (ART).

The Battlespace Division designs, develops, documents and deploys these tools.

The Battlespace Division also delivers these products as an integrated suite of tools called Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB).


A typical day as a Technical Writer-Junior may include:

  • Researches, outlines, writes and edits content
  • Works closely with various project teams to understand project requirements
  • Develops, organizes and writes design documentation, procedure manuals, test procedures, reports, technical specifications and process documentation
  • Works with division leadership and project leads to identify documentation repositories
  • Generates, revises, edits and determines best solutions for data compilation, joint development and centralized storage
  • Researches, creates and maintains templates that adhere to organizational and legal standards while allowing for easy data migration
  • Develops content for maximum usability with consistent voice across all documentation
  • Develops comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards
  • Gains understanding of products/services
  • Translates complex information into simple, polished and engaging content
  • Writes userfriendly content that meets the needs of target audience
  • Maintains configuration control of documentation products, product documents and reference materials including research, usability tests and design specifications
  • Evaluates innovative methods for process improvement continually

Must-haves:


  • Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent people skills and highly organized
  • The ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of/Experience with U. S. Government technical writing and editing practices
  • Experience writing software development reports, manuals, presentations, etc. to include design, development and test/user documentation
  • Experience writing system engineering reports, manuals, presentations, etc. to include design, development and test/user documentation
  • Experience investigating and adhering to a specified format (content and design)
  • The ability to work with developers and engineers to gather, evaluate and analyze complex information
  • Experience with the following tools: Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Adobe Pro
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Desired Skills:


  • Familiar with the following tools: Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Stream, Microsoft SharePoint and Adobe Pro
  • Prior experience working supporting SAP customers
