    Summary



    Registered Nurse - Acute Care/Telemetry (4K) position are at the Central Texas VA Health Care System in Temple, TX within Nursing Service. The RN acts as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team and supporting the philosophy, objectives and goals of the facility.



    Duties


    This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT & will remain open until May 27, 2024, or until all positions are filled. The Registered Nurse - Acute Care/Telemetry (4K) provides clinical nurse expertise, care, and education to diverse patient populations. The nurse is required to work and support multiple inpatient areas within the medical center as staffing and patient acuity needs acutely arise. Duties include, but not limited to the following:

    • Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychologic and cognitive status, analyzing patient care and bringing problems to resolution.
    • Anticipates and implements preventive patient care measures.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients in the medicine/telemetry environment.
    • Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpreting the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
    • Performs documentation duties on the floor and in the patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise, Works as part of a team in delivering patient care, Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies, and functions as a Charge Nurse and/or preceptor as required.
    CTVHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care. This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care. This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being. All staff in this facility will be part of this process, shifting the focus from the question, "What's the matter with you?" to the question, "What matters to you, and how can we help you live your best life?" This strategy also involves integrating a full range of conventional approaches with Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) approaches in order to optimize lifelong health and well-being, as defined by the Veteran, rather than narrowly focusing on disease management.
