Job Summary


The Certified Interpreter provides interpretation services to assist physicians, nurses, other clinicians and administrative staff in communicating with patients, their families and the community.


Desired Skill Sets:
Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience specific to healthcare if you have a Bachelors degree.

TMC/Children's Hospital


Address: 6411 Fannin, Houston, TX 77030

Various Shifts: 8 hour shifts, 5 days per week

Rotating on call on weekends and holidays




MUST HAVE:
Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) from NBCMI or CCHI


Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelors degree in a foreign language, communications or health care related field
or 5 years related experience


Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) from NBCMI or CCHI or pass the Language Proficiency Assessment


Experience / Knowledge / Skills:


  • Requires fluency in English and target language of interpretation
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of medical terminology preferred

Principal Accountabilities

  • Interprets patient and/or family questions or concerns to appropriate healthcare staff to optimize the patient care experience.
  • Acts as a conduit of information for all clinical services including medical terminology and support services, policies and procedures.
  • Documents accurately, completely and clearly all interpretation services.
  • Serves as a cultural mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between patients/family, as it relates to medical care.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports departmentbased goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
