- Ensure that all (re)MIND patients receive appropriate medical/psychiatric evaluation including thorough medical screening, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing medical monitoring whenever indicated
- Ensure that all medical/psychiatric care is appropriately and timely documented in the medical record in accordance with care standards
- Ensure the availability of adequate psychiatric staffing to meet the clinical, medical, and administrative needs of the (re)MIND network
- Provide coverage as needed to ensure continuity of care
- Ensure proper credentialing, privileging, and performance review of all medical staff
- Supervise and support the professional development of the medical staff, including psychiatric nurse practitioners and medical assistants
- Actively participate in initiatives to recruit, hire, and develop healthcare providers from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups
- Support the completion of evaluations for disability applications, conservatorship, and 5150/5585 evaluations if needed.
- Lead crisis debriefing conversations and conduct root cause analysis of sentinel events
- Contribute to refining coordinated specialty care outpatient programs, including developing and implementing clinical models, best practices, and clinically relevant outcome evaluations
- Conduct meetings, training sessions, and consultation on clinical topics, policies and procedures, and foster collaborations internally and externally
- Participate in scheduled medical staff meetings for peer review and professional consultation alongside other Felton Institute psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other medical staff
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality treatment and related services by actively participating in ongoing quality assurance and audit processes and ensure compliance with county, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations
- Perform other related duties as required
- Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Ostheopathic Medical Board of California AND
- Board certified psychiatrist with at least three years postgraduate experience as a practicing physician and two years of supervisory experience
- Familiarity with Coordinated Specialty Care for Early Psychosis model a plus
- Knowledge of county, state and federal requirements for documentation and reporting, including MediCal/MediCare standards, CPT codes, etc
- Knowledge of respective county behavioral health department, community resources, and EHR system
- Previous experience developing clinical and medical policies to ensure legal, ethical and compliant client care
- Strong collaboration skills, experience working within a multi-disciplinary team, and a demonstrated history of successful teaming
- Good supervisory skills and ability to coach staff to effectively engage clients and family members
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively
- Possess qualities of adaptability, flexibility, open-mindedness, and an ability to tolerate ambiguity
- Demonstrated ability to lead a culturally diverse multidisciplinary team; value and respect differences of opinion, beliefs, culture, appearances, and ways of life

Program Description
Felton Institutes Early Psychosis award winning program (re)MIND (formerly PREP) was originally developed in partnership with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Feltons (re)MIND is an early psychosis coordinated specialty care model for early detection and treatment of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. (re)MIND core evidence-based practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Strength?Based Care Management, Multi?family Group Therapy, Peer Support, Algorithm-Based Medication Management and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported education and employment. The (re)MIND model has two additional components, Felton BEAM and BEAM UP, for individuals diagnosed with bipolar or mood disorders with psychosis and for individuals at clinical high risk of developing psychosis, respectively. Funded through partnerships with county behavioral health departments, the Felton Early Psychosis Division operates outpatient coordinated specialty care for early psychosis programs in San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Monterey, and Marin, and offers excellent training and workforce development.
Position Overview
The Early Psychosis Division Medical Director is a part of the early psychosis coordinated specialty care (CSC) team and is responsible for direct supervision for psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) providing psychiatric care and medication support services to clients ranging in age from 14-35 years (with special focus on transition aged youth 15-25 years of age), all of whom experiencing early signs and symptoms of affective or non-affective psychoses or at clinical high risk of developing a psychotic illness, in the context of evidence-based early psychosis coordinated specialty care (CSC) model. The Early Psychosis Division Medical Director may provide direct care to CSC patients as needed and ensures there is appropriate medical coverage at all clinic sites. This position reports to the Division Director (or as assigned by Division Director) and collaborates closely with clinical and training director, director of clinical operations, and clinical program managers for care coordination at CSC clinics. Local travel between agency sites is expected.
