    Description
    The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District announces openings for two (2) Program Specialists for the Special Services Division.

    The Program Specialist will support teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and parents to ensure a free and appropriate public education for students who are eligible for special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).


    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides coordination, consultation, and program development primarily in the area of programming to support students with disabilities;
    • Assists in the development of effective, appropriate programs, and coordination of resources for students with special needs in special and general education program settings;
    • Develops, provides, and coordinates staff development, research, and program development, including innovation of special methods and approaches, including evidence-based best practices;
    • Stays current regarding special education issues, trends, best practices, and research;
    • Facilitates the development of programs so that students have a full range of educational opportunities as deemed appropriate by their Individualized Educational Program (IEP);
    • Observes, consults with, and assists resource specialists, designated instructional services instructors, resource specialists, special day class teachers, and general education teachers to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities;
    • Monitors and assists in developing and reviewing IEPs as needed.
    • Performs any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Position requires at least three-five years of educational experience in special education area of expertise.
    • Valid California Credential in area of expertise
    • Master's Degree in area of expertise is desired.
    • Must possess a private vehicle, valid California driver's license and carry current automobile insurance with at least minimum coverage for public liability and property damage.
    • Fingerprint clearance by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.
    • Willingness to abide by the rules and regulations of the District in a professional, ethical manner.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Demonstrates the highest standards of integrity, honesty, ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with special education staff, other school and District staff, parents, agencies and community members.
    • Must be able to mentor staff through consultations and collaboration skills as well as modeling expected skills and behavior.
    • Exhibits warmth, compassion, and good humor.
    • Demonstrates managerial and organizational skills.
    • Shows high energy, positivity, and excitement for the education of students with exceptional needs.

    SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE
    Annual Salary $107,428 - $129,930, nine (9) steps, 204 working days per year, eight (8) hours per day. Placement on the salary schedule is determined by number of years of experience. $2,000/year stipend for Doctorate Degree. Additional time/days as is necessary to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

    The District currently contributes $19,793.00 per year to family dental, medical and vision insurance plans; life insurance plan for employee only.
