Instrument Technician
The Endoscopy Instrument Technician is responsible for handling all endoscopic equipment and related accessories in the Endoscopy Center.

Major responsibilities and functions include, but are not limited to, the set up of procedure rooms prior to the start of procedures, the breaking down and cleaning of the procedure rooms between scheduled cases.

Inspects all instruments for damage and does minor troubleshooting. Stocks procedure rooms and recovery rooms as necessary.

  • Prepares the instrumentation, supplies and equipment for the various procedures performed within the area.
  • Maintains integrity of the work area, recognizes and resolves any breaks in the techniques.
  • Anticipates the needs of the equipment users to facilitate the smooth and timely flow of the procedure.
  • Communicates essential information about the equipment to the users.
  • Cleans and restocks rooms utilizing knowledge of septic and aseptic technique.
  • Disposes of all waste materials according to established protocols. Pays particular attention to the disposal of hazardous or infected material.
  • Cleans the endoscopic equipment and the related accessories in the procedure rooms, prior to transporting to the cleaning room, according to Endoscopy Center established guidelines and infection control guidelines.
  • Ensures the appropriate par levels of supplies and the presence of necessary equipment to prevent time consuming delays between procedures.
  • Informs nursing director and operations manager when outside order accessories are required.
  • Stocks all procedure rooms daily.
  • Stocks recovery room daily.
  • Assists with turnover of recovery room stretchers.
  • Understands the rationale for cleaning and disinfecting all endoscopic equipment and accessories according to Endoscopy Center established guidelines and infection control guidelines.
  • Understands the rationale for sterilizing all necessary accessories according to Endoscopy Center established guidelines and infection control guidelines.
  • Maintains an appropriately cleaned and disinfected work area.
  • Assists other staff as necessary, this may include, but not limited to, the cleaning of accessories, surfaces and supplies all done according to Endoscopy Center established guidelines and infection control guidelines.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • CRCST or CBSPD certification preferred.
  • Previous experience as endoscope reprocessing technician or central supply technician preferred.
  • Good analytical and technical attributes desired to operate specialized and technical equipment. Must be detail oriented to perform tests with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Personal attributes such as good interpersonal skills, good verbal skills, good judgment, dependability and initiative are a must to effectively handle the volume of and to effectively interact and communicate with the patients, nursing and physician staff and ancillary staff from the Endoscopy Center.
  • Must be aware of safety standards and hazards in the cleaning room.
  • Must have knowledge of care and safety hazards of all equipment in the cleaning room.
  • Demonstrates expertise on the use and maintenance of endoscopic equipment. This is expensive, highly technical equipment requiring expert handling and care.
  • Is aware of and utilizes accepted standards of care and participates in the evaluation of those standards.
  • Must possess ability to work in stressful situations requiring frequently quick action and adaptability to rapid change.
  • Standing and walking required 100% of the time.
  • Physical effort required to move and carry endoscopic equipment.
