Overview:


The objective of this position is to effectively manage and maintain the Justice Library collection, including retrieval, processing, and dissemination of materials, while ensuring responsiveness, timeliness, completeness, and high accuracy in all tasks performed.

Additionally, the role involves overseeing equipment and supplies, providing administrative support, and facilitating acquisitions and digitization processes as needed, while ensuring personnel are appropriately trained.


Background:
The Library Staff of the Justice Management Division (JMD) within the U.S.

Department of Justice (DOJ) plays a crucial role in offering comprehensive library and information services to the Offices, Boards, and Divisions (OBDs) of the Department.

Comprising the Robert F.

Kennedy (RFK) Justice Building Main Library and several branch libraries, including the 4CON Library, 1CON Library, USADC Library, 1100 L St., N.W.

Library, and Liberty Square Library, the Library Staff caters to the specific needs of OBDs and litigating divisions across various DOJ buildings in Washington, DC.

With a vast collection exceeding 238,000 volumes and over one million items of microform, these libraries house a diverse range of legal materials, including Federal cases, state publications, agency decisions, treatises, law reviews, Congressional materials, and reference resources.

The RFK Main Library serves as the primary research hub, boasting extensive holdings in Federal and State legal materials, legislative sources, and specialized collections such as U.S.

Supreme Court Records and Briefs, Canadian and British law, and DOJ publications.

Operating from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

on weekdays, the libraries ensure accessibility to Department personnel, with collections available for use beyond normal business hours and on weekends.


Responsibilities:

Utilize a wide array of online resources and media to conduct thorough and comprehensive research, ensuring all pertinent information is identified and analyzed effectively.


  • Content Analysis Support: Collaborate with stakeholders to perform content analysis for the department's library, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of curated materials.
  • Risk Identification: Employ keen analytical skills to identify and highlight potential risk issues within the gathered information, aiding decisionmaking processes.
  • Summarization: Synthesize research findings into concise and informative background summaries, providing essential context for decisionmakers.
  • Request Management: Efficiently manage research requests, tracking start and end times to ensure timely delivery of results.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Demonstrated proficiency with 24 years of relevant work experience in a professional services industry, showcasing the ability to navigate complex information landscapes and deliver actionable insights.
  • Analytical Skills: Exhibit sound judgment and solid decisionmaking abilities in resolving complex problems, with a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of research outcomes.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively conveying research findings and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Search Expertise: Possess advanced proficiency in Boolean search techniques, with experience in conducting searches across various platforms including but not limited to Factiva, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Urban Dictionary, Google, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Availability: Flexibility to respond to research requests with a 48hour notice and deliver results within a 24hour turnaround time, ensuring timely support for departmental needs.
  • Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required for this position, in alignment with the Department of Justice's requirements for personnel.
