    OverviewThe Technical Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing the technical operations and maintenance and repair of vessels.

    The Technical Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that all vessels are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage and coordinate the technical, engineering support functions of assigned vessels, including maintenance, repairs, inspections, and dry-docking activities.
    • Develop and implement maintenance plans and schedules to ensure optimal performance and reliability of vessel systems and equipment.
    • Monitor and evaluate vessel performance data, including fuel consumption, machinery condition, and operational efficiency, and take proactive measures to address any issues or deficiencies.
    • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including vessel crews, shore-based personnel, and senior management, to communicate technical requirements, address operational challenges, and ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
    • Collaborate with external vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders to procure necessary supplies, services, and inspections.
    • Attend assigned vessels periodically, with other operational support teams to monitor vessel and crew performance.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to vessel crews and engineering staff, including training, troubleshooting assistance, and performance coaching.
    • Stay informed about industry developments, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to vessel operations and maintenance, and recommend strategies for continuous improvement and optimization.
    • Participate in emergency response and incident management activities as required, including coordinating with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure effective resolution of technical issues or emergencies.
    QualificationsQualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or related field; master mariner or chief engineer license preferred. 10+ years in an engineering related field, including seagoing experience, may be substituted in lieu of the educational requirements.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marine technical operations, including hands-on experience with vessel maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting.
    • Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to vessel operations and maintenance.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
    • Proficiency in relevant software applications, including MS office suite and technical management systems. Key objectives
    • Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of assigned vessels in compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
    • Optimize vessel performance, reliability, and availability through proactive maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability among vessel crews and shore-based personnel.
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
    Project Management Skills That Are Crucial for Success Planning and scheduling:
    developing comprehensive plans and schedules that outline all tasks, milestones, and deadlines associated with the dry-docking project.

    This includes creating Gantt charts, work breakdown structures (WBS), and critical path analyses to ensure efficient resource allocation and timely completion.


    Risk management:
    identifying potential risks and uncertainties associated with the dry-docking process and implementing strategies to mitigate them. This involves conducting risk assessments, developing contingency plans, and regularly monitoring and evaluating risk factors throughout the project lifecycle.


    Budgeting and cost control:
    estimating project costs, preparing budgets, and monitoring expenses to ensure adherence to financial constraints. Project managers need to track expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and manage procurement processes effectively to optimize project budget utilization.


    Vendor and contractor management:
    recommending and / or selecting and managing vendors, contractors, and subcontractors involved in the dry-docking project.

    This includes issuing requests for proposals (RFPs), participating in negotiating contracts, and overseeing vendor performance to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.


    Communication and stakeholder engagement:

    establishing clear communication channels and maintaining regular communication with project stakeholders, including shipyard personnel, vessel owners, regulatory authorities, and other relevant parties.

    Effective communication fosters transparency, facilitates decision-making, and ensures alignment of project goals and expectations.


    Quality assurance and control:

    following established processes and procedures to ensure that work performed during the dry-docking project meets quality standards and regulatory requirements.

    This involves conducting inspections and quality checks during repair and inspection periods to identify and address any deviations or non-conformities.


    Change management:
    managing changes to project scope, schedule, or budget effectively while minimizing disruptions and maintaining project objectives. Assess change requests, evaluate their impact, and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.


    Documentation and reporting:

    ensuring that accurate project documentation, including project plans, progress reports, meeting minutes, and change logs are maintained and communicated.

    Ensure that project documentation is up-to-date, accessible, and compliant with regulatory requirements.


    Problem solving and decision making:
    identifying issues, resolving conflicts, and making timely decisions to keep the project on track. Anticipate challenges, analyze options, and implement solutions that address underlying issues while minimizing impact on project objectives.


    JOB SCOPE:

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Works both inside an office environment and outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop and maneuver tight spaces.
