    Overview

    The Portola Hotel & Spa Marketing Internship Program offers students interested in marketing, public relations, or communications the chance to gain hands-on experience while working towards their Bachelor's degree. The program aims to familiarize students with marketing practices in the hospitality industry that may not be covered in traditional coursework. Participants will gain insight into Portola Hotel & Spa's strategies to attract new, repeat, and past guests, collaborating with an established marketing team.

    Program Description

    This internship in hospitality marketing provides a platform to hone marketing skills and delve into the industry. Positioned at an entry level, interns will work within the hotel's marketing department, which includes dining and conference facilities. The focus is on expanding existing knowledge and acquiring an introduction to social media and online reputation management.

    The internship spans 12 weeks during the summer. It is tailored to furnish the tools required for advancing marketing expertise in the hospitality sector and cultivating the essential abilities to excel as a hotel marketer. The program encompasses hands-on training in areas like hotel website content management, blogging, branding, social media, online reputation management, and assistance in content creation. The ideal candidate should emanate positive energy, exhibit enthusiasm, demonstrate effective team collaboration, communication prowess, and meet deadlines.

    Program Requirements

    • Enrollment in a 2- or 4-year accredited program majoring in marketing, advertising, business, communications, graphic design, or hospitality.
    • Completion of at least one year of higher education prior to the internship commencement.
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. Comfortable with collaboration, receiving constructive criticism, and engaging with internal team members.
    • Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
    • Submission of application and three references.
    • Commitment to part-time, paid internship for 12 weeks during the summer in Monterey, CA.
    • Contribution to a unified team dedicated to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

    Desired Skills

    • Quick grasp of division operations, as well as Portola Hotel & Spa's culture, values, policies, and procedures. This knowledge is typically acquired through practical experience.
    • Positive attitude with a collaborative team spirit.
    • Energetic and professional approach to hospitality.

    Mentor/Supervisor

    Assigned mentor to offer guidance throughout the internship. Regular meetings will be held to address queries and help you understand how your work fits into the broader scope at Portola Hotel & Spa.

    Evaluation Procedures

    Ongoing feedback from supervisors with a formal evaluation upon completion of the internship. The company culture emphasizes real-time, honest feedback to foster effective collaboration.
