Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center, located in the Round Rock, TX (a suburb of Austin), is currently seeking a full-time, ER Veterinarian Mentor to join our team.
OUR PRACTICE
We are an AAHA accredited, Fear Free Certified (currently the
ONLY ER/Specialty hospital that is certified in the area), full-service 24/7 hospital, with dedicated doctors providing high quality medical care to the companion animal population in Austin and surrounding areas.
We partner with an on-site cardiologist 2 days a week and have ultrasound (performed with sonographer and reviewed by radiologist) available Monday-Saturday.
The hospital is well equipped with a full range of diagnostic and treatment equipment including commercial-grade lab diagnostics, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry, anesthesia, flexible & rigid endoscopy, ultrasound (including bedside), telemetry, blood gas, cystoscopy, cryotherapy, and CT imaging.
We have a planned move to a new facility built to our specifications (close to our current location) in early 2025.
For the ER, we have a supportive and helpful relief pool to help with ER staffing and coverage. The hospital manager and medical directors are experienced and value open communication and truly care about DVM well-being._ WE ARE MOVING TO A NEW FACILITY BUILT TO OUR SPECIFICATIONS IN EARLY 2025 (not far from current location)_

We have mild winters and warm summers, with lots of sunRESPONSIBILITIES FOR ER MENTOR ROLE
- The ER Mentor will have new DVM hires assigned under them for up to two years (depending on experience level of mentee)
- Will work alongside the medical director to provide clear expectations of performance.
- Will encourage and support CE that will elevate the quality of ER medicine in the hospital
- Work with the medical director to develop a mentorship program
- Work with the medical director to pair experienced EC doctors who serve as mentors on the floor to create scheduled clinical pairings
- Schedule case reviews and/or M&M rounds with the ER DVMs
- Assist with veterinary student extern rotation mentorship.
- This role does require primary case duty
- HOWEVER, you will be paired with a mentee (as DVMs are hired) and when paired will be aiding the mentee in case management
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL DVM'S:
- Build relationships with colleagues, clients, and support staff to ensure a compassionate and collaborative work environment.
- Motivated to foster a learning environment for colleagues, support staff, and veterinary students visiting the hospital.
- Triage and facilitate treatment plans for emergency patients.
- Continue care of specialty patients who are hospitalized overnight and on weekends.
- Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
- Provide clear and complete communication to clients and support staff.
- Communicate with referral partners (verbally and with referral letters)
- Attend morning rounds to collaborate with specialists on the currently hospitalized patients
- Maintain a positive and supportive work culture.
