    Some of what you'll be doing:

    As a Facilities Project Manager I, you will manage Waterfront expense projects within the small works criteria (up to $300K) and support Waterfront Lead Project Manager (Project Manager III) on capital projects.

    You will effectively lead, manage, and facilitate small works expense construction projects from approval to completion.


    You will support project sponsors with project set up, provide estimating services to stakeholders for planning and budgeting, and coordinate project activities with multiple stakeholders.


    You will ensure the safety of the public, Port staff, and contractors are included in project plans and obtain necessary building permits from City of Seattle and environmental permits (Shoreline & SEPA).


    You will manage, track and report project controls including project scope, schedule, budget, authorization and approve invoices according to Port guidelines.


    You will conduct site observation visits to ensure compliance with federal, state, local and Port regulations and that contractors are complying with the requirements of the contract.


    You will coordinate and manage operation shutdowns including timely notification to all affected parties, that all timelines are met to ensure minimal interruption.


    You will work with Port Procurement staff to develop procurement strategies and determine work that will be accomplished by internal Port crews or by external contractors.

    You will coordinate use of shared small works open order contract capacity with other project managers and Port Departments.


    Who you are:
    Experienced/Educated

    – You have two (2) years of general project management experience within construction, engineering, facilities and/or maintenance and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; or five (5) years journey work in relevant craft and/or technical area relating to construction and maintenance and an Associate's degree in either Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

    Desired

    – We hope you have five (5) years of general construction related project management experience managing small works projects for a public organization.

    Knowledgeable

    – You offer intermediate knowledge of construction principles, practices, and procedures and of regulated materials (asbestos, PCB's, mold, and other hazardous materials). You are familiar of project management principles, practices, and procedures in design, bid and build and you have a basic knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory agencies and related regulations, guidelines and procedures as they relate to Port construction projects.

    – You possess both strong written and verbal skills including the ability to negotiate and present to varying audiences. Your interpersonal communication skills enable you to work with a diverse group of sponsors and stakeholders.

    Critical Thinking

    – You have critical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

    Technologically Savvy

    – You are proficient in computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications, maintenance software (Maximo) and project delivery systems.

    Ethical

    – You are a person of high integrity who will honor the values of the Port as well as act in the public's best interest.

    What else you need to know:
    Driver's License

    – A valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required to travel locally to project sites.

    Work Schedule

    – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.

    Work Environment

    – You will work both remotely and in an office environment as needed to meet departmental business and operational needs. Additionally, you will be in the field conducting site visits and attending project-related meetings as needed.

    Washington State Residency Requirement

    – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

    Security Requirements

    – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.

    Safety Requirements

    – When in the field, you will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
