Summary:
Supervision:
The Director of Public Works reports to the Municipal Manager and will supervise a team of 7 highway crew members and 3 sewer crew members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operations of the Highway & Sewer Department.
- Provide handson supervision of staff and projects to ensure timely completion.
- Coordinate responses to emergency conditions such as sewer line breaks and weather emergencies.
- Foster a culture of teamwork among employees and community members.
- Provide training, feedback, and direction to staff as necessary.
- Conduct annual staff evaluations in accordance with Town policies.
- Communicate effectively with the public and address resident concerns.
- Develop and manage department budgets and capital improvement plans.
- Supervise the installation and maintenance of sewer lines.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize Town operations.
- Assist in grant research, writing, and administration.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years of experience in wastewater and/or road maintenance construction.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment, site development, and underground utilities.
- State of Vermont Class B CDL and sewer license (or ability to obtain).
Special Requirements:
- Ability to respond to emergencies and work in adverse conditions.
- Strong leadership and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and budgets effectively.
- Considerable knowledge of water and wastewater systems.
- Ability to train and supervise subordinates.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to operate heavy equipment and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Fulltime, salaried position with regular hours Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.
- Availability to respond to emergencies outside of regular hours.
Pay:
$75, $102,000.00 per year
