    Description

    Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer

    AZAK is a new platform to build electric vehicles that will speed up the adoption of electric ground vehicles and robots in the short term while demanding less raw materials from the earth in the long term. AZAK's patented technology places all of the drive components needed to operate an electric vehicle not only inside the wheel but below the center point of the wheel.

    As AZAK enters its next phase of growth, we are looking for a best-in-class mechanical engineer with deep battery experience to completely reimagine the batteries used in AZAK's tech.

    What you'll do

    • Design and develop innovative and groundbreaking high voltage battery packs for electric wheels across AZAK's suite of products
    • Develop thermal management solutions to protect battery cells from extreme conditions and maintain ideal operating temperatures
    • Develop and execute comprehensive testing across mechanical, electrical, and software. Determine necessary data collection, build test setups, and analyze data to inform design decisions and adjustments.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, software engineers, manufacturing teams, and executive team to develop, test, and integrate battery products.
    • Integrate cells into modules and packs. Bring a deep understanding of the battery cell market and what it means for AZAK's technology.
    • Set up and integrate battery management systems
    • Work with teams to establish manufacturing processes and quality control to ensure consistent, safe builds

    Who you'll be

    • Strong understanding of thermal management, battery management systems, and embedded software
    • Deep familiarity with safety considerations and regulations around battery packs. Bonus if familiar with government/defense contract considerations.
    • Understanding of battery manufacturing processes and facilities
    • Deep familiarity with the industry landscape, and experience working and negotiating with vendors and suppliers
    • Strong independent initiative and excellent creative problem-solving skills.
    • Appetite for a startup environment and operating with a great deal of autonomy and self-sufficiency, while working collaboratively and cross-functionally.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts and decisions to less technical associates
