Job Summary


The Harvard China Fund (HCF) has a small, lean team that works closely with the Harvard Center Shanghai and in collaboration with the staff of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies (FCCS).

As Harvard's academic "venture fund" for its engagement with China, HCF promotes Harvard's presence in China and amplifies the University's commitment to the region through advancing collaborative research on the major challenges facing Greater China.

We provide opportunities for students to develop their lifelong engagement with China, seed funding for faculty to collaborate with institutions across Greater China, and support for the Harvard Center Shanghai.


Position Description

The Program Assistant's responsibilities would include the following:

  • Meetings and event support: gather team's availability/arrange scheduling, book venue, order food, send invitations, collect RSVPs, send reminders, take attendance, compose meeting minutes, process Executive Director's expenses
  • Website maintenance: upload announcements and student blog posts, make edits and update program/grant info
  • Conduct general research related to contemporary China, such as U.S.China relations, new national policies, and breaking news to keep the team updated as needed or requested

Basic Qualifications
1+ years of office experience. Education may count toward experience.


Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree; proficiency with Microsoft Office programs; and Chinese language proficiency preferred. Must be able to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work independently. Strong writing skills and attention to detail. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

Work Format Details

  • This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Paid Time Off: 3-4 weeks of accrued vacation time per year (3 weeks for support staff and 4 weeks for administrative/professional staff), 12 accrued sick days per year, 12.5 holidays plus a Winter Recess in December/January, 3 personal days per year (prorated based on date of hire), and up to 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents who are primary care givers.
