Job Summary:

The School of Pharmacy is seeking a research specialist to join the Johnson Lab.

This position is focused on improving our understanding of protective mechanisms designed to mitigate the development and progression of Alzheimer's disease.


Responsibilities:

Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.


  • 65% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 15% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 5% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on daytoday activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:

Required Bachelor's Degree
Degree in Biology Sciences, Molecular Biology or related field.


Qualifications:


Required:
- experience in working with rodent models of Alzheimer's disease or other related neurodegenerative diseases.
- experience in basic lab techniques and general computer knowledge.
- experience with mouse handling, including: injection, gavage, behavioral observation, and breeding.
- experience with tissue collection and processing, including: biochemical assays (protein assay and western blot), sectioning of tissues and immunohistochemical staining.


Preferred:
- experience with DNA isolation and PCR for genotyping.
- experience supervising undergraduate student workers.
- experience with primary cultures from mouse brain tissue.
- experience with lab operations management such as organizing, maintaining and overseeing the lab's inventories, storage facilities, and general lab supplies.

  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:


Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
