Clinical Coder I
Job Description:
Review provider progress notes (written and dictated) for extraction of billable services for all patients (inpatients and short stays) for a specific division's services within the Department of Dermatology.
Performs highly specialized Evaluation and Management coding and acts as an expert in that area within the department. Applies appropriate ICD-9 and CPT codes and confirms adequate teaching provider documentation. This also involves extracting billable services from the Electronic Medical Record. Monitors patient stay by utilizing the Admission, Discharge, and Transfer orders to and from various services.Conducts accurate and timely billing for all services extracted from EPIC and/or the patient charts.
Responsible for charge data entry into EPIC while ensuring clean claim submission including working on any edits that may generate and appear in the work queue.
Responsible for responding to University of Florida Physicians information requests through the CRM function. Works closely with the University of Florida Physicians (UFP) to research problems maximizing revenues and preventing errors. The position may require a change in billing specialty to meet departmental needs. Responsible for obtaining authorizations or post-dated authorization from insurance companies as needed.Researches coding issues through all available resources, including but not limited to professional associations, federal and private payer guidelines, and coding networks.
Inform Coordinators and faculty of important changes in coding and reimbursement. Provides guidance and education to providers in regard to documentation, reimbursement, and compliance.Provides feedback to the provider regarding billing and coding and works with the provider to resolve these questions to ensure accurate coding.
Attends continuing education courses, seminars, conferences, and meetings. Provides training for all providers with acceptable coding practices.Lead accessioner responsible for accessioning when the lab is backed up or other staff are out, training new OPS/TEAMS accessioners, responsible for being a source of information for OPS employees, assisting supervisors with evaluations of accessioning staff, and other miscellaneous duties as required.
Expected Salary:
$18.75-$19.65/hr
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Medical terminology is required, and experience in medical labs is preferred.
