The Manager, Taxation will report directly to and support the Assistant Vice President, Taxation for Beth Israel Lahey Health responsible for development, planning, coordination and execution of the tax function for BILH and its affiliates, including highly visible, time sensitive, tax compliance and other tax matters, issues and projects for BILH and each affiliate within the BILH network.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:


  • Recurring Tax Matters: Work with the Assistant Vice President, Taxation and the tax team to provide support and project management for both short-term and long-term tax reporting obligations of BILH and each of its affiliates.

Projects include but are not limited to:

  • Support of system-wide preparation, review and filing of:
  • Form 990, Form 990T, Massachusetts Form PC, Massachusetts Form M990T and other foreign, state and local reporting and required estimates and extensions;
  • Form 1120, Massachusetts Form and other foreign, state and local reporting and required estimates and extensions
  • Forms 1065 and other foreign, state and local reporting and required extensions;
  • Forms 5500 and Forms 990T and other foreign, state and local reporting and required estimates and extensions
  • FATCA and CRS disclosures and filings, IRS Certificates of Tax Residency, and other reporting matters
  • Foreign national tax reporting (such as employees and/or trainees for proper tax income and/or FICA tax withholding/exemptions and preparation of Forms 8233 as needed)
  • Forms 3ABC and/or other property tax filings

Non-Recurring Tax Matters: Provide support to the Assistant Vice President, Taxation in a wide variety of tax matters that arise both system-wide and at the parent and affiliate levels throughout the year.

Areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Unrelated Business Income
  • Tax Exempt Bonds
  • Tax reporting related to nonstandard compensatory and benefit items
  • Tax issues, reporting, withholding related to activities outside the US, foreign nationals/research fellows and honoraria recipients
  • IRC Section 501(r)
  • Governmental inquiries and audits


This work will also include staying abreast of relevant tax legislation, including the researching tax law and regulations, as well as documenting developments and communicating impact.

Additional Responsibilities

  • As a member of the internal tax staff, this individual will play a critical role in maintaining/establishing strong relationships with management and staff throughout BILH
  • Supervise and train both tax department and other networkwide staff involved in tax reporting matters

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or businessrelated field; CPA, MST and/or JD preferred

Licensure, Certification & Registration:


  • Admission to the Massachusetts Bar preferred

Experience:


  • 10+ years of relevant experience
- public accounting experience with a focus on non-profit tax (including tax return preparation, consulting and research experience) or internal tax experience in the non-profit sector, is required


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:


  • Detailed knowledge of Form 990 and related reporting issues is required
  • Detailed knowledge of nonprofit tax issues is required. Knowledge of nonprofit healthcare preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required; knowledge of Access is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal skills is required, including experience with tax research, interpreting tax issues, documenting research and the ability to communicate findings
  • Be selfmotivated with a positive attitude that actively looks for improvement opportunities
  • Possess the ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects and deadlines and manage their time and staff effectively
  • Have a proven track record of success working as part of a team and also have the ability to work independently on projects
  • Have a proven track record working with individuals at various levels within an organization from staff to management
