    Mental Health Services Clinician


    to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners.

    Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Services " East Baltimore, the Mental Health Services Clinician is part of a team of clinicians providing clinical and outreach services to students and learners across Johns Hopkins University.

    The Mental Health Services Clinician focuses on generalist clinical service delivery, along with expertise in outreach, education, case management, and consultation as essential mental health interventions.

    The person in this position works collaboratively with primary care, psychiatry, and health promotion staff, along with colleagues in Mental Health Services, to provide care that emphasizes holistic wellness and mental well-being and that leverages students resilience and other key skills.

    As with all staff within Mental Health Services (MHS), the Mental Health Services Clinician provides a full range of clinical services including initial consultations, goal-directed therapy, workshops, groups, and crisis intervention.

    The Mental Health Services Clinician will collaborate with campus partners across the University through outreach and liaison activities.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in clinical work and all professional activities.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    This positions direct clinical service responsibilities will be primarily based at the East Baltimore clinic but may provide virtual or in-person services and supervision at other locations in Maryland or Washington, D.C.

    Direct Clinical Service (65%)

    Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.

    Provides multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including goal-oriented approaches to initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session therapy, individual counseling, group and relationship counseling, and crisis intervention for a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students and trainees.

    Utilizes both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with treating psychiatrists.

    Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team.
    Provides clinical case management to support connections to appropriate resources and bridge clients to care.
    Consults, as appropriate, with providers in the community to facilitate continuity of care.
    Outreach (15%)
    Develops, implements and integrates evaluation feedback for psycho-educational workshops and other presentations for JHU students and learners.

    Engages in opportunities for informal interactions with students to reduce barriers to counseling, which may include offering drop-in and chat hours, attending student events, and participating in a range of student-led and student-focused programs.

    Maintains a visible presence in campus community through participation in outreach and educational activities including orientation, resource fairs and community activities.

    Contributes to content for MHS social media and website content.

    Serves as liaison to a school, division or department within JHU to enhance relationships with faculty, staff, students and trainees; range of activities may include needs assessment, embedded chat or drop-in hours, participation in CARE teams, facilitating skills training or workshops, consultation, etc.

    Collaborative and Other Activities (20%)
    Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies.
    Contributes to professional development of trainees and SHWB staff through provision of didactic training and seminars.
    Participates in case consultation, student risk management, peer chart reviews, and other departmental committees as directed.

    Participates in clinical training programs; licensed psychologists will enter the pool of available individual supervisors for the APA-approved psychology internship training program after 2 years of post-licensure experience.

    Works collaboratively with campus partners to support both clinical and programmatic needs of students and learners.
    Participates in MHS recruitment and hiring processes.
    Completes documentation and administrative duties in accordance with MHS policies and procedures.
    Other duties as assigned.

    Specialized training, interest, and/or experience working with one or more diverse populations is strongly preferred; examples include Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) identified students, the LGBTQ+ community, first-generation and/or limited income students, international students, and students who identify as disabled, gender diverse, and on the neurodivergence spectrum.

    Clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred; examples include identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.Experience independently executing psycho-presentations, programs and events for a wide audience.

    Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
    Additional Information
    This is a 37.5 hour/week position. One evening clinic per week (telehealth only until 7pm) may be required.


    This position requires evening and weekend work dependent on the programmatic needs of the University and for activities during the academic year (e.g., orientation, special events, etc.).

    One day of remote work is standard; additional remote days may be required or permitted based on operational needs.

    This is a 12-month position; 10- or 11-month positions may be possible, please discuss options with the recruiter.


    This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, designated as vital to the operation of a work group, so may be required to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Master's Degree in Counseling, psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.

    Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical experience.


    Independently licensed as a mental health provider in primary required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description prior to start date; licensure in additionally required jurisdiction(s) required within 6 months of hire.


    Substitution / Equivalency:
    Doctoral degree (Ph.
    D. or Psy.
    D.) in psychology from an APA accredited program and completion of an APA internship. If eligibility is based on a doctoral degree (Ph.
    D. or Psy.
    D.) in psychology, post-grad experience is not required to meet the minimum qualifications.

    Recent doctoral graduate hires must obtain licensure as a psychologist in a minimum of one required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description within 12 months of hire; licensure in additional required jurisdictions required within 2 years of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Doctoral Degree (DSW, Ph.
    D., Psy.
    D. or relevant terminal degree) from an accredited program.

    Licensed as a psychologist in required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description or license-eligible (must obtain licensure in required jurisdiction(s) within 6 months of hire).

    Clinical experience in a university setting strongly preferred.

    JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
