Purpose of Classification:


UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN I

The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of entry level field services tasks within the Utilities department.

Employees in this classification are eligible for noncompetitive career ladder promotion to Utilities Field Technician II after meeting the established career ladder requirements.


Hourly Rate Range:

Utilities Field Technician I - $ $24.13


UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN II
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of field services tasks within the Utilities department.

Employees in this classification are eligible for noncompetitive career ladder promotion to Utilities Field Technician III after meeting the established career ladder requirements.


Hourly Rate Range:

Utilities Field Technician II - $ $26.56


UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN III

The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of intermediate level field service tasks within the Utilities department.


Hourly Rate Range:

Utilities Field Technician III - $ $28.99 Hourly


Essential Functions:


UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN I

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Entry level position to assist other staff with and learn the following tasks/duties:
Swales, flood control, point repairs, slip lining, dead end cleaning, canal cleaning, storm water conveyance system installation, etc.

Sets well points.

Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools and materials.

Cleans culverts, gutters, ditches, swales, storm drains, canals, and many other similar jobs.

Removes and replaces sod, sprinkler heads, etc.

Repairs concrete and asphalt.

Locates clean-outs and service lines.

Installs clean-outs and basic sewer repairs.

Services line flow tests and in clears blocked service lines.

Repairs water leaks.

Repairs and installs water service lines.

Repairs, replaces, and inspects water mains, fire hydrants and tests and flushes fire hydrant water flow.

Opens and closes water valves.

Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

May operate a truck or other automotive equipment.

Performs other general manual labor work as required.

Uses a variety of power and hand tools to complete tasks in their area of assignment.


UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN II

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Incumbents will perform the following general functions within this classification and lower level.

Participates in the installation, maintenance, and repairs of water distribution, wastewater and stormwater systems.

Responds to customer complaints; locates service lines, detects leaks, excavates, and repairs service lines.

Installs and maintains drainage swales, manholes, catch basins, pipes, taps and other components.


Inspects water mains, meters, valves, fire hydrants, manholes, air-relief valves, sewer lines for condition assessments, leak detection, and make needed repairs.


Performs pouring new sidewalks, making street repairs, laying and/or replacing sod in yards where repair work has been completed and performs landscaping to ensure property is restored, etc.

Acts as banksman during excavation ensuring proper laying of pipe and making connections.

Maintains and submits reports of maintenance performed.


Operates a variety of equipment in performing assigned duties, which may include a pipe saw, tamper, electric crane, valve machine, and jack hammer.

Repair breaks and holes in street surfaces using asphalt and concrete.

Will be required to perform "stand-by duty", being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairs.

May be required to work nights and weekends.

Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

Works diligently while maintaining safety and quality in all aspects of job performance.

Assists with set up of Temporary Traffic Control (TTC).

Assists with GIS updates and verification.

Completes various forms, work orders, reports, correspondence, daily worksheets, or other documents.
