    PACKER with Security Clearance - New Orleans, United States - Department of Defense

    Description

    Duties * You will check items to be packed against shipping document or invoices to insure correct identification and condition.

    * You will perform loading of commercial conveyance, ensuring bracing and shoring of loaded material as required. * You will pack materials and equipment in standard cardboard boxes and using wrapping when specified. * You will move heavy equipment into position using hoists, forklifts or other means to accomplish the task.

    * You will perform routine housekeeping and clean up both inside assigned work areas and outside on and around the loading dock.

    Requirements Conditions of Employment * Must be a US Citizen. * Must be determined suitable for federal employment. * Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

    * New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

    * You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. * You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift license.

    * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

    * You will be required to lift up to 40lbs in weight.

    Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

    Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

    This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

    The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to perform the work of a Packer, as demonstrated by experience working under normal supervision taking measurements and noting weight distribution to follow appropriate methods of packing materials; following proper guidelines to pack hazardous materials; bracing and shoring of loaded material; packing material in cardboard boxes while properly protecting materials; using hoists and forklifts to move heavy equipment.
