    Under general supervision of the Lead APRN, provides preventive health (family planning and sexually transmitted disease) services to males and females under approved written protocols with collaborating physicians. Establishes and monitors clinical practice in area of specialization. Works with DIS team and community partners to provide mobile and on-site PH services in the Upstate Region as needed.

    Job Duties:
    • Population Focused Care to assess the health of male and female patients seeking preventive health services in the health department and community settings per program policy and protocols.
    • Performs examinations, including physical and screening for psychosocial problems per program policy and protocols.
    • Provides care for patients at risk or with complex reproductive health needs and refers appropriately.
    • Develops contraceptive plans including insertion and removal of LARCs; Develops treatment plans for identified health problems according to protocols & refers patients as appropriate.
    • Participates in disaster preparedness during hazardous weather or declaration of emergency as outlined in the DHEC Emergency plans, to include staffing of shelters on site or in other areas of the state.
    • Works with DIS team and community partners to provide mobile and on-site PH testing and treatment services to patients within the community to include but not limited to local city and county detention centers.
    • Provides confidential follow up per agency and program policies and procedures.
    • Population Focused Education by providing in-depth education regarding health care issues to individuals, families and groups in the health department and community settings.
    • Teaches, counsels, and monitors the treatment regimen in selected populations, including but not limited to, incarcerated individuals.
    • Participates in an emergency or disaster as outlined in the DHEC Emergency Plans. During such times, the incumbent should regard himself/herself as being on 24-hour call and subject to duty when such events occur and/or are anticipated to occur.
    Minimum and Additional Requirements

    State Minimum Requirements: Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina (Board). Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level acceptable to the Board to include clinical experience.

    Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

    Agency Additional Requirements: Masters in nursing (MN) or Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) and current certification with accepted credentialing board; current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.

    The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control offers an exceptional benefits package for temporary grant positions that includes:

    This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control's (Division/Bureau). The work performed supports DHEC's mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Public Health created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Public Health to assume the public health-related functions of DHEC.
