Job Responsibilities Operates medium-sized equipment such as skid steer, tractor with batwing mowers (15'), and combination tractor with side-mounted mowers in roadside and right-of-way management operations in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations.
Performs skilled manual labor in various duties such as removing fallen trees from roadway, cutting dead trees on right-of-way and low hanging limbs over roadway.
May assist with directing mowing and right-of-way clearing operations.Operates heavier equipment such as a motor graders, backhoes, front end loader, slope mowers, and other specialized mowing equipment for maintaining and clearing vegetation and debris.
Operates tandem dump trucks with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations.Operates and maintains powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance related to assigned tasks such as tree and vegetation removal, cleaning pipes and ditches, limb trimming, weed eating, facility maintenance, litter and dead animal removal, etc.
Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment.Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life.
Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges.
Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements Six (6) months of related work experience. Relevant education may substitute for the experience requirement.Necessary Special Requirement:
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normalscheduled work week; especially during inclement weather. Preferred Qualifications None.
