What You Will Be Doing
We are looking for an ambitious Head of Risk to head our global risk function.
The Head of Risk is responsible for identifying, evaluating and analyzing risks inherent to ONX's operations, and ultimately reducing our cost of risk.
You will be expected to identify and evaluate the risk exposures, and to administer the risk treatment/insurance programs to efficiently manage exposures to those risks, as well as remain informed of the changes that occur within the company and recommend/execute changes to the program as appropriate.
You will track and review all insurance policies held by the company and support renewal processes annually. You will report to, and work closely with, our General Counsel.Essential Job Functions:
- Create robust insurance programs and allocations, with a focus on real estate, manufacturing and construction risks in our US markets
- Develop strong, effective working relationships with the Company's management and functional leaders
- Establish yourself as inhouse liability management resource, available and eager to educate, advise and direct our management, staff and business partners where necessary to reduce or transfer risks
- Establish and maintain relationships with insurance brokers and carriers, and lead annual renewals
- Regularly review our insurance programs for enhancements and work closely with brokers/carriers to create cost savings opportunities
- Implement, administer and monitor risk management techniques/strategies to efficiently and cost effectively manage those risks, including in respect of subcontractor/vendor exposures (i.e., risk transfer, risk mitigation/loss control, risk avoidance, risk elimination, risk retention, etc.)
- Partner with procurement team to implement and administer a robust system of contract review in respect of subcontractor and vendor agreements
- Oversee general liability and workers' comp claims
- Coordinate issuance and distribution of Certificates of Insurance to business partners. Evaluate and monitor incoming certificates to determine if they meet the appropriate contractual requirements, and take needed action if not
- Review insurance binders, invoices, and policies for accuracy and manage the retention of policies, schedules of insurance and other risk management documentation based on company's retention policy
- Participate in forums, risk management educational programs and other educational opportunities to stay informed of emerging issues affecting risks
- As we grow, look for opportunities to expand Risk team reporting to you
- As we grow, expect your portfolio to include nonUS risk analysis and management
- Work closely with our General Counsel, operations leaders and finance team on special projects as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Risk management, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field required
- 5+ years overall risk experience
- High degree of knowledge and understanding of real estate and construction sectors
- Strong interpersonal skills ability to build relationships fast, and maintain them to maximize results
- High degree of comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty able to pivot quickly and coolly to new strategies based on changing circumstances
- ONX is still effectively a startup so you need to be able to act as a leader, and also 'do the work' / lead by practice / be comfortable in a startup environment
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Promptly responsive to inquiries
- Comfort with virtual meetings and work (i.e., we do a lot on Teams/Zoom)
- Excellent communication (verbal & written), numerical, presentation & organizational skills
- Selfmotivated with ability to work effectively as part of a broadbased team in a dynamic environment where superior time management and prioritization/reprioritization skills are essential
- Be willing to travel at least 15% domestically
Preferred:
- Property & Casualty Broker's License
- Familiarity with risk profile of manufacturing/factory operations
- JD and 3+ years of legal practice
- Captive insurance experience
