Description

The Office of Residence Life seeks an Area Coordinator to serve as a live-in professional responsible for the vision and operation of multiple residential areas on the Worcester campus.

The Worcester campus is comprised of graduate and professional students participating in year-round, accelerated programs. The Residence Life community in Worcester includes approximately 550 residents, living in an array of housing options throughout downtown. This is a full-time, year round, live-in position that includes a two-bedroom apartment.

Leadership and Programming (60%)

  • Promotes an atmosphere of quality interaction, shared accountability, and civic responsibility within the residence hall and university community.
  • Encourages student accountability for the Student Code of Conduct and Residence Life policies and procedures by serving as a student conduct hearing officer.
  • Assists community members in managing conflict between individuals and within groups.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation and assessment of student staff selection and training, and supervises Resident Assistant staff in assigned area(s).
  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming offered in the residence halls.
  • Meets with students and provides support, solutions and/or referrals as appropriate.
Operations (40%)

  • Participates in the residence life oncall duty rotation and serves as a primary contact for oncampus emergencies.
  • Collaborates closely with Facilities, Public Safety, and other campus partners to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for residents.
  • Coordinates movein/moveout procedures and works collaboratively with Operations staff regarding occupancy numbers and room changes throughout the year.
  • Participates in programs and committees that support the Division of Student Affairs and the University.
  • Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Required:


  • A master's degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field and demonstrated experience in residential life or student affairs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations or educating students related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • An understanding of specialized student populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

Physical Requirements:


  • Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; however, will require ability to navigate the residence halls and check condition of residential rooms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
