THE POSITION:


DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • As part of this position, you will be responsible for conducting tests on materials that are produced in the designated material plant. This includes ensuring that the materials are extracted from stockpiles, overseeing gradations, specific gravities, absorption of bituminous products, air entrainment, and slump tests. It is crucial to verify that all materials meet the contract requirements, design criteria, and department specifications. Your duties will also involve maintaining detailed records related to the testing of all materials. Additionally, you will be required to generate regular reports on the tests conducted and send material samples to the central laboratory of the Department for further analysis. Furthermore, you will play a key role in training staff on proper sampling and testing procedures. In addition to the testing responsibilities, you will actively participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing quality. This may involve recommending and implementing new strategies, restructuring existing functions to enhance efficiency, and fostering a culture of ownership and pride in the work carried out by both the team and individuals. Your contribution will be vital in driving improvements and ensuring that operations are streamlined and effective.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with a 30minute lunch.
  • This is a vendorcontrolled position, with flex schedule

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title);
    or:
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles);
    or:
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work;
    or:
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;
    or:
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology;
    or:
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:


  • This position requires possession of an active noncommercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
