Director of Teaching and Learning (1st - 8th)


REPORTS TO:
Head of School (HoS)


DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM:
Holy Family School

***Under the supervision of the Head of School (HoS), this individual works in collaboration with the Assistant Principal (AP) to manage, implement and direct the schools curriculum development and delivery of instructional services and programs for achieving the school goals and objectives to elevate student achievement by providing direct support, guidance and supervision of faculty.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides leadership in the development of processes, strategies, and feasibility planning to ensure that all resources are appropriately utilized in order to achieve goals set for student and faculty learning.
  • Plan, organize and implement the Common Core Standards, Illinois Learning Standards and ISBE goals in the elementary and middle school programs providing the support necessary to ensure student success at all levels. Identify baseline, develop strategy, and implement benchmarks towards annual academic improvement goals.
  • Coplans, organizes, and participates in the evaluation and selection of curriculum, textbooks and instructional materials and equipment.
  • Ensures faculty is using curriculum with fidelity and provides training as needed for teachers who need training in curricular areas.
  • Oversees standardized testing ensuring that students, faculty and parents are aware and prepared for the testing cycles.
  • In conjunction with HoS and AP, prepares testing data for presentation and analysis
  • In conjunction with HoS and AP, observe faculty and provides written and verbal feedback to improve instruction, classroom management, and overall quality of learning and teaching
  • Values and encourages creativity and initiative with faculty in assessing, identifying, formulating, and implementing the schools curriculum and assessment goals and objectives.
  • In conjunction with the HoS and AP, assists in planning and implementing professional development days, internal and external learning activities for faculty designed to help them collectively and individually
  • Tracks faculty advancement towards certification and informs HoS regarding any issues or barriers to completion
  • Receives and reviews weekly lesson plans; provides feedback to faculty regarding written plans and actual implementation of the written plan
  • Plans, develops, and conducts parent and community relations programs pertaining to curriculum, assessment and school, and home collaboration to ensure optimal student performance in conjunction with HoS and other agents.
  • Communicate with other administrators, personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs around educational opportunities such as Family Reading & Math Night.
  • Works with CLEF coach, Title 1, Special Ed teacher/resources and any other external partner to ensure services provided are meeting set goals and targets for faculty and students.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with HoS and AP to review progress and identify barriers or challenges.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Principles, practices, trends, goals, and objectives of ISBE state standards and support of innovation and creativity
  • Philosophical and educational aspects affecting school curriculum and instruction processes
  • Excellent organizing, management, planning, and evaluation strategies, techniques, and procedures
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop, implement, and execute the vision through collaboration and attention to detail
  • Curriculum and instruction design and delivery systems, including audit and evaluation processes that determine process effectiveness
  • Instructional program forecasting, projecting, auditing, and the managing of a variety of information and data management, storage, retrieval, and dissemination systems
  • Research and development strategies, processes, and techniques
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Able to influence others positively through interpersonal skills and credibility
  • Operate a computer and assigned office equipment
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Adheres to schedules and deadlines in a timely manner
