***: The Lab Technician supports the work of the teaching staff in the science department.





ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Not intended to be all-inclusive) General responsibilities include the following; other essential duties may be assigned to meet business needs.


  • Preparation of materials and equipment for science lessons, including classroom setup
  • Constant communication with teachers to ensure all technical needs are met
  • Reading through labs & dry run if necessary to develop full understanding of technical needs
  • Stay in or near the classroom while lab is in process for technical support
  • Cleaning up after labs/activities including:
  • Gathering and washing used glassware promptly
  • Disposing of chemical solutions following in an environmentally safe method
  • Returning all materials to proper storage area promptly
  • General cleaning of equipment and lab areas for the purpose of maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Maintain or improve upon current level of lab/department organization of materials
  • Conducts physical inventories for the purpose of verifying and replacing stock and identifying losses, by teaching staff
  • Repairing or arranging for repair of damaged equipment
  • Creating purchase orders or visiting local store to replace materials
  • Receiving and unpacking deliveries
  • Collaborates and works well with others
  • Assists teachers in the supervision of students for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
  • Assist teachers when asked once all other tasks are done and if teacher requests it
  • Maintaining familiarity and laboratory compliance with the fire marshal's codes and regulations
  • Maintaining familiarity with school safety codes and procedures and update safety policies as needed
  • Adheres to MHS policies, procedures, and guidelines; as well as applicable industry and employment regulations
  • Lab technicians will be expected to maintain a schedule of 1015 hours a week and be in communication with teachers so they may assist on lab class days
  • It is imperative that Lab Technicians arrive no later than 7:30 in the morning to help prepare for that day's labs
  • Be fully committed to Maranatha's mission of providing a quality college preparatory education in an intentional Christhonoring community of faith, belief and practice. Able to affirm through exhibiting personal and professional support of the School's mission, standards of conduct and Statement of Faith

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist in other duties as needed and directed by Immediate Supervisor
  • Participate on committees and panels as directed by Immediate Supervisor
  • Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with other organizations, ensuring the school is well received and presented professionally and positively

INTERACTION:


  • Interact internally with faculty, staff, and students. Interact externally with parents, schools, and the community.

  • Ability to read basic operating instructions

  • Sounds Microsoft Office skills, including proficiency in Excel
  • Equipment: reasonable care and operation of classroom technology and workroom technology to include copy machine, computers, DVD player, Television equipment, Etc.

Education

  • High school or equivalent

Work Experience

  • 12 years' experience as laboratory technician or equivalent experience preferred.

Language Skills

  • Requires excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to effectively respond to questions from staff, students, and vendors
