Position Summary:


Working Lead position that under indirect supervision and following JWCE's Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Policies, coordinates the employees and activities of the shipping department, ensuring the timely shipment of Customer Orders by confirming products are received on time from supplying operations and packaging materials are ordered, received, properly organized and used appropriately, monitoring set productivity targets to be met while ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Under indirect supervision and following JWCE's Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Policies, the shipping lead ensures adherence to production schedule by leading the employees and activities of the Shipping Department, following the Final Assembly Schedule and Customer Sales Orders to understand customer needs and desired delivery dates, ensuring proper utilization of his team members, training personnel in daytoday responsibilities and assigning tasks to schedule and organize the workflow so that orders are processed in advance and on time
  • Coordinates with supplying department leads and gathers all equipment, welded structures, spare parts, and operation manuals to be included in shipment and with QC Inspectors for verification of product conformance in preparation for crating and packaging
  • Actively participates in daily and weekly production meetings promptly communicating safety, staffing, material, quality, or other issues that could affect safety and customer service levels
  • Lays down equipment, crating, strapping and shrink wrapping per JWCE's SOPs for the Shipping Department, cutting, and adding wood supports as well as equipment protections, modifying crates or manufacturing wooden pallets as required to meet shipment requirements
  • Mixes and uses paint as required for equipment for touchups when required
  • Packages spare parts and Manuals in boxes in preparation for shipment
  • Coordinates with Customer Order Entry personnel to resolve Sales Order Discrepancies and with Stockroom, Final Assembly and QC for the prompt location of missing parts and with production supervisors, engineers and quality inspectors reviewing sales orders and BOM's to correct discrepancies and/or problems
  • Coordinates with Facilities Maintenance to ensure department forklift, Wood Saw, lift tables, pallet Jacks and any other equipment is maintained in good, safe working conditions
  • Requests quotes from third party logistic partners and common carriers, determining carriers' selection utilizing knowledge of route and geographic restrictions and Schedules orders for shipment in trucks or flatbeds as required
  • Coordinates with Customs Specialist and verifies customs documentation for international shipments is complete, and prepares Bill of Ladings, verifies Air and Ocean Waybills, verifying all outbound shipments against documentation, labeling and/or colorcoding of equipment crates and pallets, stacking, and consolidating all packages prior to using forklift to load trucks or flatbeds
  • Prepares, packages and labels parcel shipments for UPS and posts them in UPS log
  • Assures the implementation of every applicable control to maintain the integrity of the Inventory Control System ensuring all shipping transactions for local and OSP shipments are done correctly and in a timely manner in ERP system (Visual) keeping stock control systems up to date and accurate
  • Monitors the efficient use of space and material handling equipment, monitoring that Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity targets in the shipping department are met or exceeded, producing regular reports, and statistics & briefing the company's team leaders on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Plans, coordinates, and monitors the ordering, receipt, organization and use of MRO inventory, Packaging Supplies, Crates, Wood, and Pallets used by the shipping department in daytoday responsibilities


Assists Plant and/or Manager and manufacturing Engineer(s) in the planning of future capacity requirements and training of shipping staff, motivating, organizing, and encouraging teamwork within the shipping workforce and constantly seeking improvements in space utilization, labor productivity & cost reduction efforts through continuous improvement.


Education, Experience, & Skills:


Required:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience, plus 35 years in a diverse and dynamic manufacturing environment, including assembly, repair & service warehouse with industrial shipping operations

Dependable team player who with a positive and constructive attitude, people management skills, can lead and motivate a team, delegate work, and explain ideas with Initiative, decisiveness, and enthusiasm

  • Experience with an inventory management/MRP system
  • Experience operating forklift and material handling equipment such as Aerial
