Description
This is a temporary position with an end date of June 30, 2025. This position provides support for the school's general accounting and financial reporting function.

It requires a strong working knowledge of general accepted accounting principles, certain treasury and gift functions, financial systems and internal controls, and the ability to prepare financial reconciliations, analysis, and journal entries.

The position requires close attention to detail and the ability to work well independently as well as with other Business Services staff and other departments on campus.


This position is also required to process payroll for approximately 160 employees and related accounting on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring that employees are paid completely and accurately.

The position will work in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources to ensure that any pre-tax or after-tax deductions are properly withheld and accounted for, and all payroll activity is appropriately reconciled to the general ledger.

This position requires regular direct communication with employees, students, Human Resources, vendors, and others.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities- Prepare regular (monthly, quarterly, and annual) reconciliations and analyses for balance sheet and revenue/expense general ledger accounts using generally accepted accounting principles.- Responsible for the proper recording and reconciling of donor gifts (monthly) in collaboration with the Advancement office.- Manage all elements of the bi-weekly payroll process including but not limited to: processing employee paychecks, verifying employee hours worked, entering and reconciling payroll deductions and benefit premiums, and preparing and posting the journal entries to record all payroll related activity to the general ledger.- Monitor and ensure that paid time off accruals are working properly in the time and attendance system for eligible employees and reconcile these balances to the general ledger on a monthly basis.- Assist in audits and other examinations including but not limited to financial statement, workers compensation, retirement plan, and NYS segregated gift annuity audits, preparation of the Form 990, etc.- Provide support in all areas of accounts and financial reporting as needed.


Qualifications and Competencies- Bachelor's degree with 3 years accounting or related experience or 15 years of accounting experience.- Must be familiar with basic accounting practices and principles including general ledger functions and monthly closing.- Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously with regular interruptions while maintaining a strong attention to detail.- Knowledge and use of accounting software and strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.- Familiarity with payroll software and wage and hour laws.- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with ability to meet deadlines.- Confidentiality and respect for employee records.- Self-starter with ability to take initiative and problem solve.


Salary
$55,000 - $65,000 based on education and experience.
