Part-Time Community Organizer
La Comunidad, Inc., is seeking a part-time Community Organizer to work on the strategic leadership development of our members, particularly with high school youth and immigrant parents.
The part-time organizer will use the relational organizer techniques to engage the following stakeholders for purposes of neighborhood development: residents, parents, property and business owners, local police, elected officials, church leaders, service providers, educators, principals and students.
This position will be a key liaison and advocate to increase residents' civic participation, access to good local jobs, and advocating for ethically, racially and economically diverse communities in Everett public schools and community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage a youth development program: coordinate with several other organizations in Everett to offer youth workforce development, college prep support, civic engagement workshops and a new green jobs community mentorship program.
- Coordinate an immigrant parent leadership committee in Everett Public Schools.
- Reach out, recruit and educate residents and other community stakeholders in Everett with a focus on improving Everett Public Schools, Voter education and civic leadership development.
- Identify and recruit volunteers to assist in these efforts.
- Represent La Comunidad, Inc, at appropriate meetings, presentations and community events as needed.
Job Requirements for this position:
- One to three years minimum of direct grassroots community organizing or related experience
- Solid commitment to membership engagement and grassroots community leadership
- Experience working in grassroots community groups
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; well organized
- Selfmotivated proven ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations
- Flexible to work weeknight/weekends depending on project and events
- Bilingual: English and Spanish, Haitian Creole or Portuguese
- Good computer skills: familiar with word, excel, power point, databases and social media platforms.
20 Hours per week
Salary:
$30, $32,000 per year depending on experience
Benefits include paid Federal holidays, 5 annual sick days, 2 additional weeks PTO per year.
Training and individual leadership development provided.
