    Description
    Professional Practice Program Specialist


    • Manages specified programs to advance interprofessional practice throughout Nursing & Patient Care Services.
    • Participates in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of defined programs to promote attainment of Nursing & Patient Care Services, organizational and system goals.
    • Identifies and recommends fiscal, material and human resource requirements for specific programs. Handles allocation of fiscal and human resources as necessary.
    • Implements changes related to programs and processes, working collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines.
    • Promotes effective management of transitional phases between planned changes and implementation.
    • Researches and investigates issues/problems related to specified programs. Works with nursing and other disciplines in an effort to resolve issues and problems. Initiates follow-up to all pertinent parties.
    • Serves on Nursing & Patient Care Services, MGH and MGB committees to promote professional and enculturate practice initiatives.
    Professional Practice Programs


    • The functions cited above are applied in supporting the following interprofessional programs across Nursing & Patient Care Services:
    • Shared Decision-Making Model - reimagined in January 2024 and requires design, execution and evaluation of implementation plan. Requires keen attention to promoting and supporting a culture change. Support launch and work of unit/clinic/department/central councils. Tracks outcomes of project work.
    • Clinical Recognition Program - provides oversight and management of Clinical Recognition Advancement Program for nursing and other health professions including portfolio management, oversight of the review board, communications and record keeping.
    • Magnet Recognition - supports Magnet Program Director in all components of the 4-year application including identifying and collecting narratives/data to write over 100 sources of evidence (examples of how Magnet standards are achieved); supporting the Magnet Steering and Writers groups; coaching 150 Magnet Ambassadors on units/clinics/departments to prepare for Magnet Site Visit; and maintaining robust Magnet Recognition website for easy access to key information.
    • Awards, Recognition and Scholarship Program - coordinates all aspects of program including calls for awards and scholarship applications, facilitating review boards, integrating the program into the work of the Recruitment, Retention and Recognition Council (part of shared decision-making model) and unit/clinic/department-based councils.
    • Evidence-Based Practice enculturation - serves as evidence-based practice mentors to support professional practice and performance improvement initiatives. Documents all aspects of EBP/QI project and outcomes. Participates in Inquiry Council to track projects and share best practices.
    • Additional project/programs as needed.
    Consultation


    • Provides consultation in area of accountability and/or expertise.
    • Builds collaborative relationships both with MGH colleagues and members of the broader local and
    * global community to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

    Evaluation


    • Evaluates outcomes related to programs and projects.
    • Designs and/or participates in evaluation activities.
    • Modifies programs based on evaluation feedback.
    • Utilizes performance improvement techniques to address system issues that will improve efficiency.
    Professional Development


    • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth.
    • Identifies learning needs and goals; designs a plan to meet them.
    • Supports and participates in nursing leadership groups and leadership development programs.
    • Enhances own professional development and contributes to the achievement of departmental and organizational goals through such activities as participating in and/or conducting research; authoring articles for internal and external professional publications; developing innovative initiatives.
