DEPARTMENT MISSION


The Music & Creative Arts Department exists to inspire, equip, and disciple worshippers and creative minded people through diverse artistic expressions.

Our vision is to empower the Metropolitan Division, be a consistent, relevant resource, and be on the forefront of missional engagement through the arts.


OUTCOMES


To give college-age Salvationists an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Salvation Army music and creative arts programs as well as staff for our ambitious summer of music and creative arts ministry within the Division and beyond.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mission Team members to participate and assist in daytoday office functions such as staff meetings, instrument inventory, library maintenance, summer Music and Creative Arts Camp preparation, etc.
  • Mission Team members will travel to corps, collect, repair, and inventory all DHQ loaned instruments. We need updating, assessing, and repairing our distributed inventory.
  • Mission Team members will teach and provide program assistance at NCI Creative Arts Camp (dates to be determined) and NCI Music Camp (dates to be determined).
  • Mission Team members will resource corps by visiting and teaching music and creative arts at various Day Camps as requested. NCI Corps Music Conservatories as scheduled.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Divisional Director of Music & Creative Arts.


In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.


PERFORMANCE MEASURMENTS


This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed and an evaluation of how effectively service is provided.


EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • Completed at least one year of college as fulltime student, major or minor in music or creative arts field, or extensive experience teaching music or creative arts curriculum.
  • Proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument needed.
  • Performance experience is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's license/MVR clearance.

POSITION LIMITATIONS
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.


All Salvation Army owned equipment that is being used by the individual will be returned at the end of employment before the final check is issued.


This individual will keep the Divisional Director of Music & Creative Arts informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.

This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light physical work.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use instruments and equipment needed in a music program.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment and a PC also required.
  • The work environment for this position includes a program environment with a moderate to high noise level, including an outdoor camp environment.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with coworkers and supervisors.

resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates.
