Dispatcher - Chicago, United States - Dart Container
Description
Coordinates product, vehicle, and driver availability to dispatch company-owned trucks to ensure timely delivery of products to customers and third parties.
Day-to-Day Role:
- Follow and commit to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for safety, quality, efficiency, and service requirements
- Follow practices and processes intended to provide safe products that comply with appropriate laws and regulations, meet the company quality standards
- Follow and commit to safety and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, dispatch, route, and track tractors and trailers
- Develop efficient routes to ensure that deliveries are made in a timely fashion
- Monitor all trips realtime and effectively coordinate pickups and drop offs
- Maintain contact with drivers throughout their shifts and address routing or emergency issues; escalate as appropriate
- Monitor road conditions, construction zones, and accidents in order to revise routes as needed
- Interact with and update customers on the status of their deliveries including potential delays
- Identify and seek to resolve potential problems
- Monitor and track drivers' working hours and vehicle usage
- Interface with supervisor to secure additional drivers, utilize outside carriers, modify existing equipment, or acquire additional equipment to satisfy capacity demands with corporate
- Enter, record, maintain and track data, logs, reports and other required documentation using ERP or other systems; Ensure regulatory requirements are maintained
- Create, compile, and deliver required reports
Core Skills and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year previous automotive freight dispatching experience
- Quick decisionmaking skills, especially under pressure
- Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills, including a pleasant phone demeanor
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, documents, and spreadsheets in MS Word and MS Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Ability to effectively manage and execute multiple tasks, projects and priorities
- Math skills to include simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and ongoing communications about safety and quality issues
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- SAP experience
- Basic understanding of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations
- Previous Electronic Logging Device (ELD) experience, Omnitracs
