Primary Purpose


The Training Specialist coordinates DASNY's Construction Division's training and development program and assists with the delivery of DASNY-wide training initiatives.

The position also performs a variety of operational, developmental, and administrative tasks related to the maintenance and operations of systems to support the training and development of DASNY staff.


Essential Functions

  • Serve as a key resource, and coordinate with Information Services, to develop, maintain, update, and troubleshoot systems related to the training and development of DASNY staff.
  • Coordinate onsite and remote training, including the coordination of consultants, logistics, and schedules as needed.
  • Process and schedule requests for training and seminars and register staff for training.
  • Deliver and facilitate onsite and remote training for DASNY staff.
  • Assist with the development of presentations, course materials, and user guides.
  • Maintain knowledge of instructional methods, techniques, and best practices by attending workshops and training conferences, and reading professional journals/websites.
  • Assist with the coordination, identification, and development of training content for the Construction division which includes, but is not limited to the following: conducting assessments, analyzing, and forecasting needs, researching various training options and recommend methods, courses, trainers, curriculums, and new methods for employee development.
  • Assist with the selection of training consultants and/or participate in procurements for training services. May include tasks such as performing vendor and market research, identifying requirements, participating in writing requests for proposals (e.g., RFPs), coordinating demonstrations, rating/comparing vendors, and serving as a selection committee member.
  • Maintain employee training records.
  • Process payment of trainingrelated bills.
  • Respond to inquiries on staff development.
  • Produce periodic and ad hoc staff development reports, as requested.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • May assist consultants in designing customized curricula.
  • Assist with the documentation and implementation of procedures.
  • Assist with internal controls implementation, review, and testing.
  • Undertake special assignments as directed.
  • Must maintain regular attendance in accordance with DASNY attendance and leave policies.
  • Must adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established and issued by the Office of Information Technology Services. (Standards can be found on the Intranet).

Supervision
Supervision of employees may be required.


Physical/Mental/Visual Demands
Occasional travel is required using public transportation, DASNY vehicle, rental vehicle or personal vehicle. This travel may include overnight stays at public accommodations and related establishments. Overtime or extended work hours may be required.


Work Environment


Standard office environment, including the use of one or more of the following: PC, telephone, fax machine, printer, copier, scanner, electronic stapler/hole punch/date stamp, shredder.


Minimum Qualifications**Bachelor's degree plus two years relevant experience; or

Associate's degree plus four years relevant experience; or

High School Diploma or equivalent plus six years of DASNY relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration or related field with two years' of experience of in the training industry; or Bachelor's degree in Organizational Training and Development or another training-related field with one year of experience in the training industry.
