General Description:


Under general supervision, the Warrants Specialist is responsible for the processing of warrants, capias and injunctions, receiving requests from field units, and conducting computerized searches on their behalf.

This position is also responsible for entering, cancelling, and modifying entries in the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computerized systems, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

The unit must be staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week, to include holidays and times of emergencies.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must meet State of Florida applicant requirements pursuant to FS
  • Must receive FCIC/NCIC Full Access Certification withing six (6) months of hire date and maintain certification throughout the duration of assignment to the position.

Background Screening:
This position will require an extensive background investigation and drug screening.


Essential Functions:


  • Processes incoming and outgoing phone calls in a professional manner to outside agencies, victims, and department personnel.
  • Answers incoming requests from field units with entries into the FCIC/NCIC systems.
  • Conducts appropriate computerized searches in multiple databases to ensure the validity and integrity of FCIC/NCIC entries.
  • Records information (incoming and outgoing messages) obtained via telephone and/or other sources (computer) from the public on the appropriate forms.
  • Handles entries of confidential Warrants, Capias, Injunctions, Civil Orders for Arrest into FCIC/NCIC and the County Clerk Management System.
  • May train new Warrants Specialists when hired.
  • Performs routine office tasks such as preparing reports, typing, filing, faxing, and photocopying.
  • Must be able to maintain regular and prompt attendance to include scheduled work hours, required training activities and meetings, mandatory overtime, and during times of emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions:


  • General office setting with most duties being performed while sitting at a desk, table, or workstation.
  • Must be able to staff shifts covering twentyfour (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Must be able to remain available to work during an emergency/disaster/epidemic, as directed.

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned clerical duties.
  • Ability to adapt easily and effectively to changing processes and priorities.
  • Ability to type twentyfive words per minute (25 WPM) accurately.
  • Ability to perform research and retrieve information using multiple databases and computer systems.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional journals, manuals, procedures, and instructions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend maps, layouts, memos, summaries, and reports.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to operate a multiline telephone system.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, interagency personnel, and members of the public to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to behave in a respectful and professional manner and with the utmost integrity, even when off duty.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language.

Required Knowledge:


  • VSO General Orders and procedures.
  • A wide range of telecommunications equipment that includes telephones, FCIC Terminal and computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (NCIC/FCIC) and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) systems.
  • Federal, State, County, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Policies and procedures related to public safety communications.
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Radio codes and designations.

Physical Requirements:


  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ambulate independently.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods.
  • Visual acuity of 20/30 vision standard in each eye; if corrective lenses must be used to satisfy 20/30 vision standard, uncorrected vision should be no worse than 20/100 in each eye.
  • Must pass hearing test with less than or equal to 40 decibels in each ear under the frequencies: 2,000 Hz, 3,000 Hz, and 4,000 Hz.
  • Utilize a computer and/or CRT screen for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally bend, squat, reach, grasp.
