Position Summary:


The UCI DREAM Center stands with and serves those impacted by immigration policy through advancing systemic change, deconstructing oppressive policies, and fostering community.

We work towards personal growth, collective healing, and visible change.

This is achieved through providing scholarship opportunities, resources, and programs around the values of diversity, resilience, empowerment, advocacy and mentorship.

Performs a limited range of counseling and advice to targeted students. Provides straightforward counseling and advice to commonly-encountered situations independently, but receives assistance for unusual situations.

Under the general direction of the DREAM Center director, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of programs and services to engage and support undergraduate and graduate students impacted by immigration status as undocumented or students from mixed-status families at UCI.

In addition, the program coordinator is responsible for planning programs and events to help undocumented students address educational obstacles.

Required:


1-2 years of experience working in a university setting or related program, activity, and leadership experience Ability to successfully address and mediate conflicts in a tactful and neutral way.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.


Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.

Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement.

Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.

Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.

Dynamic leadership working with multicultural students and student organizations in a higher education setting; demonstrated success in promoting a strong sense of commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Occasionally need to work special events on weekends and evenings Work with the DREAM Center and Immigrant Legal Services staff team to ensure areas of operations, events, and crisis management needs are met
