Job Summary:

-
Duties/Responsibilities:_

  • Conduct effective and safe adaptive riding lessons for individuals with disabilities, while following individualized treatment plans and PATH Intl. guidelines.
  • Create and deliver engaging and effective lesson plans customized to each rider's goals and abilities.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment for both riders and horses.
  • Manage basic behavioral issues with horses and riders' equine behavior within a lesson setting.
  • Groom and tack a horse in preferred discipline.
  • Properly fit equipment to horse and participant.
  • Identify and correct basic student and equine issues during a lesson.
  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., emergency dismounts, basic horse first aid issues)
  • Collaborate with therapists, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care for each rider.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current on therapeutic riding practices.

Required Skills/Abilities:_

  • Current PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) certification is required. Over 120 hours of documented lesson experience preferred.
  • Highly motivated, confident, and energetic, with a positive attitude.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of honesty and integrity.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all seasons, capable of frequent lifting of at least 5075 pounds, and physically able to complete tasks commonly and routinely associated with equine profession standards.
  • Ability to foresee safety issues for both horses and clients and remediate the issues.
  • Knowledge of proper equine health and nutrition.
  • Ability to properly groom, tack, ride, and train.
  • Ability to understand and interpret horse behaviors.
  • Understanding of disabilities and their impact on riding skills.
  • Excellent horsemanship skills and experience in handling and working with horses.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor with a commitment to helping individuals with disabilities achieve their goals.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with riders, parents, therapists, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Starting pay of $20 per hour, with the potential for advancement based on experience and performance.
