CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE_

This non-exempt position is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled landscape construction tasks including digging, carrying materials, irrigation, drainage, landscape construction, and equipment operation; perform related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_

• Uses hand and/or power tools or equipment to perform a wide range of landscape and irrigation duties (e.g., lawn mowers, lawn tractors, zero turn commercial mowers, backpack blowers, line trimmers, chain saws, power pole pruner, rototillers, air compressors, ladders, hand pruners, loppers, hedge shears, pruning saws and pole pruners, rakes, shovels, pick mattocks, rotary spreaders);

- able to identify ornamental landscape plants, native landscape plants, invasive plants, weeds, local insect pests and signs of damage and local diseases by common name;
- conducts weeding of planting areas;
- performs spring and fall landscape "clean-up" tasks on client properties;
- prunes trees, shrubs, and vines to encourage healthy growth;
- performs proper renewal and aesthetic pruning techniques;
- conducts site clearing and preparation;
- performs soil work including soil moving and raking;
- conducts stonework (e.g., flagstone installation, accent stone placement);
- stakes trees, applies guide wiring, and attaches vines correctly;
- installs plants based on specific plant and/or site requirements;
- installs bare root, balled and burlap plants and all sizes of container plants properly;
- recognizes plants with problems and addresses to the general needs of plants;
- demonstrates proper watering techniques specific to plant and site conditions;
- applies mulch properly;
- sets sod, sprinkler heads, non-sewage catch basins, and tree stakes;
- moves soil, equipment, and materials, digs holes, and plant trees, shrubs, and flowers;
- applies fertilizer and planting tablets;
- clears and back fills ditches and trenches for irrigation and drains;
- digs and back fills holes for plants, trees, and shrubs;
- loads and unloads trucks and trailers with the necessary tools and supplies;
- keeps vehicles clean and organized;
- cleans drains, and tree wells;
- performs rough grading and final grading procedures;
- carries materials (e.g., sod, rocks, and plants);
- maintains tools and equipment to ensure safety;
- role models PPE usage;
- performs general clean-up at the work site;
- performs elevation tasks correctly;
- conducts basic irrigation tasks (e.g., installs sprinklers, connects irrigation and drainage pipe using glue, locates, irrigation point of connection, understands emergency shutdown procedure, repairs broken pipe and sprinkler heads, drip system checking and repairs);
- immediately reports unsafe conditions or faulty equipment to the Team Leader;
- complies with all company policies and safety procedures;
- works from elevated heights such as an 8' A-frame ladder;
- performs erosion control;
- performs Winter Service (e.g., snow clearing, snow plowing, shoveling, salting) as needed;
- provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and Company staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
