  • 1. Demonstrates competence in patient care, patient education safe patient transfers.
  • Patient Identification introduces self and properly confirms patient identification prior to moving patient.
  • Carries out transmissionbased precautions.
  • Transfers patients using gait belt, slide or slip board, hovermatt, hoyer lift, evacusled, etc.
  • Oxygen managementdisconnects O2 tubing from wall unit and connects to O2 tank as necessary. Ensures tank is full and adjust flow volume. Seeks out RN for assistance.
  • Observes/reports or records patient response to care given.
  • Connects or disconnects telemonitor to and from portable devices as needed for travel or return.
  • Active Listening attends closely to and attaches significance to a patient's verbal and nonverbal communication; refers questions about diagnosis or treatment to the patient's nurse.
  • Hand Off Communication must ensure travel ticket is complete and correct. Always sign patients in and out of unit on floor log sheet.
  • Identifies and reports deviation in v/s or patient observations and patient needs to RN.
  • Provides assistance for newly admitted patients; orientating the patient to room surroundings, equipment and operates bed (i.e. outlets, bed check alarm, chair checks, bed setting low, etc.).
  • Works collaboratively with all departments to keep patient wait times to a minimum.
  • Maintain patient safety and modify action plans to reduce risk for injury from falling.
  • Patient comfort/ anxiety reduction
- determines the need for accessing patient transportation (i.e. wheelchair, stretcher, bed) to maintain a high level of patient care. Provides reassurance, encouragement and emotional support.

  • Maintain efficiency with clinical equipment needs.
  • Assesses equipment to determine acceptable performance. Informs supervisor of equipment problems and tags equipment with the appropriate form to pull out of service.
  • Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes equipment. Maintains adequate levels of supplies.
  • Locates and returns various equipment (i.e. pumps, wheelchairs, blood warmers, etc.).
  • Distributes specimens accordingly noting special requirements and prioritize deliveries.
  • Remain familiar with the process for checking out and signing in of crash carts.
  • Supply Management
- ensures acquisition and maintenance of appropriate items for providing patient care.

  • Assist in administering first aid or providing life support in emergent situations. Respond to codes as dispatched. Ability to work efficiently; cope and respond well with emergent situations.
  • Demonstrates competence in assistance with patient assessment and care provision under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Measure and records patient information (i.e. patient weight and height upon admission)
  • Connect and disconnect pulse oximetry, automatic blood pressure device, DVT prevention.
  • Maintain foley integrity.
  • Provides timely, accurate and complete documentation of near misses, occurrences and action plans.
  • Document equipment repair/ maintenance needs
  • Demonstrates competence in dispatching calls in order of priority.
  • Effectively manage time, is focused, well organized, prioritizes calls, and completes calls in dispatch software.
  • Actively fosters communication with Supervisor/Manager regarding daily issues, discrepancies, and concerns and unreasonable response times.
  • Exhibits flexibility in daily assignments and performance expectation; is adaptive to change in daily rotation between Transport and Dispatch functions.
  • Communicate over phones and radios in a professional, clear, courteous and effective manner.
  • Dispatching assignments to the appropriate personnel in order of availability and proximity while maximizing productivity.
  • Utilizes effective dispatching logic in prioritizing tasks Perform electronic checks in dispatch. Note all pertinent information in calls.

Experience Minimum Required

  • Transporting patients, specimens, requisitions and other patient related items to and from designated areas of the hospital.
  • Minimum 6 months of Customer Service and/or Healthcare related background.
  • Proven effective communication skills.

Experience Preferred/Desired

  • LNA Certification
