The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program, where parents can bring their children ages 0-5 to one of two Sacramento nurseries for emergency childcare services or overnight care during difficult times.

Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families in times of crisis.


OVERVIEW:

The Child Care Worker I or II, under the supervision of the Crisis Nursery Supervisor and the work direction of the Lead Childcare Worker, assists in the total child care and supervision functions of the Crisis Nursery.

This position is responsible for ensuring the health, safety and basic needs of children are met and for performing household tasks to comply with standards.


DUTIES:


  • Ensure the safety of the children at all times.
  • Provide supervision, protection and care of children individually and in groups at all times.
  • Provide assistance to each child in working with a group and in handling individual problems.
  • Administer discipline and set limits for behavior.
  • Notate child's progress, identification of the possible need for professional services, and communication of such findings to professional staff.
  • Administer medications and treatment following accurate dosage and times as prescribed or recorded in the child's chart.
  • Provide direct child care services being aware of the needs and wellbeing of all children.
  • Supervise the children at all times.
  • Attend to all child care needs, including but not limited to diaper changes, bathing, feeding, oneonone interaction, discipline, etc.
  • Remain alert to physical and/or emotional changes in infants or children indicating the onset of illness, and report any significant changes to a Supervisor.
  • Interact with and perform intakes and discharges with children and families.
  • Prepare all meals and snacks and serve family style.
  • Complete all household tasks including dishes, stocking supplies, laundry, cleaning, organizing, inventory, bed making, vacuuming, and cleaning and sanitizing beds.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities for children.
  • Immediately communicate any unusual situations to Lead Childcare Worker and support any problemsolving plans.
  • Support children during the transition to and from activities, napping, meals, etc.
  • Provide transportation for parents and children when needed.
  • Give breaks to staff.
  • Constantly monitor and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the interior and exterior of the Nursery, in accordance with program and Title 22 regulations.
  • Complete written documentation per program requirements, and in compliance with agency policy and Community Care Licensing (CCL) regulations within deadlines.
  • For qualified CCWs, cover for Lead and Lead Awake Childcare workers as directed by the supervisor and manager to benefit services.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Attend approved training classes as required by SCH and CCL.
  • Attend weekly mandatory site meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm


Education and Experience:


Child Care Worker I ($ $23.77)**A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Completion of twelve-semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, as determined by the institution is required.

  • These classes would have a focus on Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Child Health at an accredited college or university. Threesemester units, or equivalent quarter units, including coursework in the care of infants, is preferred.


Six months of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable licensed group child care program is preferred.

Previous experience working with infants and children up to age 5 is preferred.

Driving is an essential function of this job.

As such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment.

A valid driver's license and minimum insurance coverage is also required. Must be at least 21 years old.


Child Care Worker II ($ $22.25)
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Six months of experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable program is preferred. Previous experience working with infants and children up to age 5 is highly desired.
