    About Position :

    MCPLis seeking a highly motivated, efficiency-oriented, and collaborativeWarehouse Assistant Supervisorto supervise delivery and receiving operations for the Collection Management unit. This position reports to the Collection Manager and serves as part of the Collection Management team along with the Head of Metadata and Discovery and the Head of Acquisitions & Interlibrary Loan.

    Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities :

    This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of Libraries' Collection Management Warehouse, including:
    • Supervising a Supply Technician who receives, opens, and verifies deliveries of new library materials to the warehouse loading docks, totaling more than 250,000 new items per year.
    • Supervising a team of sorters who sort materials for distribution between library branches to fulfill customer materials requests and to return materials to their own branch library.
    • Supervising and coordinating the work and schedules of a team of Driver/Clerks who conduct inter-branch deliveries of library materials to and from all 22 MCPL branch locations.
    • Supervising and ensuring proper receipt of new materials in Libraries' Integrated Library System (ILS).
    • Coordinating the maintenance of Libraries' fleet of delivery vehicles (4 non-CDL trucks and a cargo van).
    • Overseeing maintenance of the warehouse facility.
    • Ensuring sufficient staffing for all the above activities and scheduling substitutes as necessary to ensure the success of library warehouse operations and preventing backlogs that might negatively impact on public library service.
    • Maintaining records of shipments received at the warehouse and working with the management team to initiate claims for damaged merchandise. Regularly inspecting warehouse areas to ensure clean and safe working conditions are maintained and ensuring compliance with warehouse operations and security procedures.
    All MCPL positions may include day, evening, and weekend hours, but this position will be scheduled primarily Monday-Friday between the hours of 7am-5pm.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Education : Completion of high school or High School certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland or GED.

    Experience : Three (3) years experience in performing and leading others in general warehouse duties involving the receipt, movement, storage, and preparation for delivery of merchandise.

    Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

    Licensure : Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Commercial Driver's License appropriate to the equipment operated by an employee in this class.

    Preferred Criteria :

    All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified," placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for interview. Selection for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:
    • Experience maintaining shipment records of orders, initiating claims for damaged or missing materials. Directing and participating in periodic physical inventory of incoming shipments and electronically recording information about materials received in an electronic database system.
    • Supervisory experience assigning work to subordinates; leading by example and training employees on proper work methods; and checking work in progress and upon completion.
    • Experience with logistics of a fleet of delivery vehicles (trucks, vans, etc.), scheduling routes, vehicle maintenance, etc.
    • Experience preparing employee time and attendance reports; reviewing and evaluating employee work performance and recommending appropriate action for resolving problems and decisions on personnel matters; coaching employees on job performance and policies and procedures.
    • Experience working with maintenance staff reporting and following up on building issues, such as cleaning, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
    • Experience overseeing mailroom, stockroom, warehouse, or other receiving facilities.
    • Experience complying with financial policies and procedures, including cash handling and/or basic accounting.
    • Experience writing documentation of workflows and tracking workplace efficiency, utilizing available technology.
    • Bilingual skills preferably in Spanish and/or Chinese.
