Program Facilitator - Girls Initiatives


The YWCA of the City of New York (YW-NYC) is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

We are a multiracial women's social justice organization dedicated to addressing issues that emerge at the intersection of race, class and gender.

Founded in 1858, the YW-NYC is the first YW in the United States and part of an international movement of YWs worldwide.

The YW's Girls Initiatives program engages high school self-identified girls and gender non-conforming femmes with an integrated approach to social justice leadership.

The Girls Initiatives Program Facilitator will be responsible for class facilitation, program recruitment, building positive relationships with students, and supporting daily operations of the program.

The Program Facilitator must be comfortable discussing identity, intersectionality, gender, class, race, privilege, and power with youth and understand youth development.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate the planning, coordination, and onsite execution of program projects, initiatives, curricula, and activities for youth including workshops and/or trainings, projects and presentations, community service endeavors, outings/field trip exposures/tours, procurement of guest speakers and expert facilitators, recruitment and retention of participants, etc.
  • Create wellstructured, culturally relevant engaging activities and lesson plans for our weekly sessions for Leadership-Civic Engagement, College Knowledge and Girls In the City Programs. Manage database entry, track attendance and monitor student engagement
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of various recognition, celebrations, and fundraising events (as needed)
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of program participants.
  • Assist with evaluation of GI programming.
  • Actively listen to others while expressing own expertise and effectively utilizing relevant resources.
  • Work in collaboration with lead program staff to develop and implement a marketing plan to recruit participants for the program.
  • Assist with the setup, delivery, and cleanup of program area.
  • Maintain detailed & accurate administrative files on youth enrollment and attendance.
  • Develop working relationships with community agencies and organizations.
  • Implement policies and procedures pertaining to assigned program areas.
  • Attends and actively participates in required training, meetings and presentations.
  • Supports YWCA mission and values. Continually look for ways to improve the organization and works in alignment with our strategic goals. Brings best self to the workplace and shares ideas and suggestions.

Key Qualifications

  • Possess 2 years working or volunteering with youth and have a desire to learn.
  • Ability to Pass background screening, provide medical.
  • Ability to bring joy and enthusiasm, while engaging with girls 1321 years old.
  • Experience working with underserved youth from an antioppressive framework.
  • Excellent crisis management and conflict resolution skills; life skills coaching; group facilitation and team leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth from various cultural, ethnic, socialeconomic and developmental backgrounds.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a work environment that challenges gender stereotypes and is LGBTQIAaffirming.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a teamsetting or independently and manage multiple responsibilities and priorities with high attention to details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Take a proactive approach to potential problems and create opportunities for positive change.
