Description

The Diesel Equipment Enforcement Section within the Enforcement Division is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and resourceful Air Pollution Specialist (APS).

DEES is responsible for enforcing California's on and off-road diesel regulations and programs, including the Heavy Duty Inspection and Maintenance Program known as Clean Truck Check, Statewide Truck and Bus, Off-Road Equipment, and Transport Refrigeration Unit Regulations.

DEES conducts planning, development, and organization of roadside or stationary deployment of Portable Emission Acquisition System (PEAQS), investigates repair issues and tampering of emission control systems and on-board diagnostics (OBD), and engages in community outreach and environmental justice concerns related to diesel vehicles and off-road equipment.

Your primary role will be conducting field inspections and investigations related to heavy duty vehicles and off road equipment. You would play a key role in planning and conducting field inspections, ensuring safe and effective operations.

Many of the field inspections include deploying CARB's Portable Emissions AcQuisition System (PEAQS), which will remotely screen passing heavy duty vehicle emissions to target the highest emitting vehicles.

You may also assist other teams within the Diesel Programs Enforcement Branch, and assist with special project assignments as needed.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework.

The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy.

While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.

  • Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
  • Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.).
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport items weighing upi to 25 pounds, with or witout reasonable accommodation.
  • Travell will be required.
