Summary:

The Program Director's primary responsibilities include; the quality, effectiveness and development of approved children's programs.

The Director will oversee staff ratios, communication and work in accordance with established governmental laws, state mandates, state funding and center procedures.


Essential Requirements:


  • Prior supervisory experience managing program direction and curriculum Working knowledge of Title 5/Title 22, Head Start Performance standards, and all associated child development regulations
  • Working knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Train and observe preschool staff
  • Perform annual performance reviews
  • Proven ability to provide conflict resolution
  • Prior working experience with Systems analysis (using word processing, spreadsheet and data based computer programs)
  • Strong organizational skills/attention to detail
  • Prior training experience; ability to orient & develop staff
  • Oversee the daily operation and procedures of the preschool
  • Manage staff in collaboration with the principal
  • Create policies and develop curricula which conform to the state requirements
  • Ensure the property is wellmaintained
  • Maintain the school website and social media
  • Schedule training of CPR and First Aid for all staff members
  • Identify and schedule fundraising events
  • Ensure that policies and procedures of the school are being followed
  • Ensure all rules and regulations from California Child Care Licensing are being implemented
  • Ensure that child/staff ratios are maintained and enrollment levels are met in accordance with the State of California Contracts
  • Promote advocacy for children and families
  • Schedule ongoing training of teachers
  • Plan special events, such as back to school night, promotion and holiday programs as well as putting the school calendar together
  • Communicate with staff and parents
  • Create an environment where children feel safe and love coming to preschool
  • Oversee the planning and preparation of meals for the children
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills:


  • Knowledge of State and California Community Care Licensing policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare and submit annual State programs assessments, reports, and contracts
  • Ability to prepare for and participate in Federal Program Monitoring (FPM) reviews
  • Ability to oversee of all programs functions and ensures the wellbeing and safety of all students
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a supervisory capacity with staff, parents, and children

Child Development Program Director

Knowledge of:


  • Supervision of staff, including annual performance evaluations
  • Supporting staff around instructional curriculum, lesson planning, child assessment
  • Assessing teachers' professional development needs
  • Family engagement
  • Assist children in the resolution of conflicts by enforcing limits in a consistent manner and helping children find the appropriate ways to deal with their feelings
  • Ordering supplies

Essential Physical Functions (including classroom and outdoor environments):

  • Physically capable to respond to the children's needs, emergencies and conflicts that may occur within a childcare center environment in a timely manner
  • Able to lift at least 30 lbs. (from floor to waist) in a repetitive manner
  • Physically capable to assist children when needed to ensure safety in play area
  • Physically capable to crouch, sit on the floor (up to 30 minutes) to relate to the children in their environment
  • Able to communicate (verbal and written) in English; with staff, children and families in an effective manner
  • Able to handle the daily commotion of high noise levels and the pressures of the Center on a daily basis

Health, Safety and Nutrition:


  • Ensure an appropriate environment both inside and outside accordingly to Cal OSHA
Guideline (SB 198) Plan

  • Ensure that children are well supervised at all times to ensure a safe environment according to Cal OSHA Guidelines (SB 198) Plan
  • Ensure that the Center complies with the following: a) Quality food service program in accordance with the established guidelines of the California Child Care Food Program b)
Universal health precautions c) Health and Safety Procedures as per Agency's guidelines d) Ongoing accident prevention and playground safety programs in accordance with Cal
OSHA Guidelines (SB 198) Plan and the Center's policies and procedures e) Recognize the mandate to report suspected child abuse
