About the role:


As a member of our Substance Use & Recovery team, the clinician will serve individuals and families with substance use needs.


As a drug checking technician you will:

  • Operate a mobile drug checking and harm reduction service which includes implementation and utilization of a range of drug checking technologies, the provision of support to peer staff and the provision of harm reduction education that will assist people who use drugs to understand drug checking results, learn about safer drug use and to connect to community resources.
  • Receive client feedback, and inquiries and respond as appropriate.
  • Complete and maintain accurate and related records and documentation.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of harm reduction vending machines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a continuum of services to adults and youth with alcohol/drug related needs to
ensure successful engagement in person centered programming


  • Ensure interventions are recovery oriented, culturally congruent and developmentally
appropriate


  • Provide risk assessment, safety planning, and de escalation interventions, and harm
reduction approaches


  • Provide harm reduction education to clients including training and distribution of
Naloxone and fentanyl test strips


  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the substance use provider network in Illinois,
including Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR), detox services, inpatient services,

outpatient services, peer support, mental health care, and/or coordination with primary

care when appropriate


  • Engage community in harm reduction approaches such as naloxone/overdose
prevention training, safe drug use training, stocking and networking related to harm

reduction vending machines


  • Deliver services within office, and community settings.
  • Provide warm linkage, care coordination, and resource acquisition services as indicated.
  • Maintain high quality documentation of all case work, completed in a timely manner,
and consistent with outlined program policies and licensure requirements.


  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and health care team members both
internal and external to the organization to improve patient care through effective

utilization and monitoring of health care resources.


  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with community partners
  • Demonstrated ability to remain neutral, non judgmental and professional to support
and provide service to marginalized and vulnerable client populations.


  • Demonstrated knowledge of substance use, addiction and stigma and their impact on a
community.


  • Demonstrated knowledge of cultural humility and trauma informed practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the confidentiality and sensitivity of the role and that
any breach is cause for termination.


  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and the ability to learn new
technologies.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • CADC Preferred
  • CRSS or CPRS Credential preferred
  • Embraces Harm Reduction philosophies of substance abuse treatment.
  • Personal vehicle, valid drivers license, insurable driving record and vehicle insurance
  • Grade 12 or GED
  • At least 1 years recent, related experience in a public health or health service area
  • Ability to obtain CADC, MAATP, or CPRS certification within two years of hire or as appropriate with the credential.
