ORGANIZATION
Metropolitan Mediation Services (MMS) is a community mediation program which has served the Greater Boston Area since 1987.

MMS has a community and social service focus, providing mediation services and conflict resolution training and education to Boston area courts, schools, housing authorities, municipalities and human service agencies.

MMS is a program of the Brookline Center, a non-profit community mental health center that has been in operation for over 50 years.


The Brookline Center is working in partnership with other community mediation centers across the state to provide services for the Housing Mediation Program under the overall supervision of the Massachusetts Office of Public Collaboration (MOPC).

The goal of the Program is to mitigate the harmful economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent homelessness by keeping tenants stably housed and landlords from mortgage and tax delinquencies and foreclosures through the provision of mediation services by coordinated with government-sponsored housing education and resource programs and local courts.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Report to the MMS Director and help coordinate M.M.S.' programs in multiple Trial Court divisions for multiple case types.
  • Coordinate mediation volunteers and the MMS Supervised Mentored Program, in collaboration with other MMS Program Coordinators, and in consultation with MMS Director.
  • Coordinate, conduct or participate in specialized orientations and training; Assist, as needed, in basic mediation training.
  • Collect and report data with consistent attention to detail in database entry and creation of reports.
  • Conduct HMP outreach, produce and distribute materials and supplies.
  • Able to travel (safety permitting) to our office in Brookline and to court locations in Boston and suburbs.
  • Coordinate housing mediation casework referred both precourt and court connected based on referrals from and liaison with housing agencies and the courts, including management of volunteer mediators, administrative tasks such as developing partnerships, case management, paperwork review and data collection for the purposes of evaluation.
  • Attend periodic staff or Community Mediation Center Grant Programrelated meetings, scheduled supervision meetings, and mandatory agency training and other relevant training.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Qualified applicants should be committed to the field of community mediation.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Access based programs and the ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Ability to work independently, utilize sound judgment in making decisions, and appropriately incorporate guidance from supervisors.
  • Experience in mediation/conflict resolution is a plus.
  • Familiarity or experience with tenant assistance programs or agencies is a plus
  • Fluency in a language spoken by Boston populations, in addition to English, such as Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, or Chinese is a plus.
