Major Duties:

Assist with instructing a variety of group surfing classes for youth and adults. Typical classes involve the supervision of 4 to 40 students in an instructional and recreational setting. Preparation includes lesson planning, equipment inspection and classroom set up. Instruction involves both land and water lectures, demonstration and skills practice.

Provides Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures.

Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Minimum three years surfing experience. Teaching skills, either formal or informal are helpful. Must be able to relate well with people and be interested in developing the skills of others. A valid CPR and First Aid Certification is required.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

National and state background checks are required for positions that involve working with youth programs.


Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.

STEP - Military Spousal Preference may be requested for positions NF-3 and below, Crafts and Trades (NA, NL, NS), and Child & Youth (CY) positions.

Spouses must meet the minimum qualifications posted in the job announcement. Spouse preference eligibility begins 30 days before the reporting date to the new duty location.

Spousal Preference applicants hired in a flexible position will not lose their spousal preference eligibility until converted or hired into a regular full-time or part-time position or is within a 60 day period of receiving new PCS Orders.

Required Documents

  • Furnish a copy of the PCS orders with reporting date to the new duty station and authorized move with spouse. If the spouse is not listed on the PCS orders, the spouse must provide documentation (i.e. marriage certificate, valid military ID, etc.) verifying marriage prior to PCS orders (must have been married to the military sponsor before relocation to the new duty station).
  • For spouses with current or prior Federal service, submit a copy of the most recent performance appraisal rating and, if applicable, documentation of appointment eligibility.

Selective Service Registration:

If you are a male born after December 31, 1959 and are at least 18 years of age, government employment requires that you must register with the Selective Service System, unless you meet certain exemptions.

You must be able to show proof of registration or your exemption, as part of the required suitability background investigation.
