Laundry Aide


REPORTS TO:
Laundry Supervisor


SALARY CLASSIFICATION:
Hourly


General Description:

Performs general laundry duties and distributes clean linens to departments. Cleans equipment and work area.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Collects soiled linens, and assists in sorting and stain removal.
  • Removes linens from dryers and sorts.
  • Hangs garments that do not require pressing.
  • Starches designated items.
  • Mangles, presses, or hand irons articles as required.
  • Folds, counts and stacks linens, etc. according to departments, or for shelving in linen supply room.
  • Keeps records of linen weight by department as needed.
  • Puts linens on carts and distributes to departments according to their daily predetermined needs.
  • Inspects linens for wear and tear and disposes of, or sets aside for repair.
  • Reports linen needs to Supervisor.
  • Cleans equipment and work area daily and as scheduled.
  • May perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Work Area and Working Conditions:


  • Welllighted, ventilated open corridor/work area.
  • Exposed to heat and steam.
  • May handle contaminated linens when necessary

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to lift, carry packages and equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, lift, push carts and move arms constantly during workday.

Equipment to be used:


  • Washer
  • Dryer
  • Iron

Key Accountabilities (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Sort dirty laundry according to type and location. Must check clothing from East Wing and RCH for names and labels.
  • Able to accurately sort clean clothing in accordance with distribution methods set for particular wing.
  • Folding linens in accordance with laundry policy.
  • Pack and distribute linens to various wings and special units, i.e. Rehab, kitchen, beauty parlor.
  • Able to operate, fill and empty and clean dryers.
  • Able to load and operate washers and sort wet-clean.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including washers, dryers, drains, carts, storage areas.
  • Able to operate mangle ironer so items are neatly pressed. Hand ironing of personal clothing.
